It has been out for at least 3 months already. Round the world, it has been one of the most sought-after new Nikon lens. The third batch should be in soon. Your calculations is a bit off 12->18 => 1.5 crop. 24->40 =>??? :dunno:

There is going to be a Sigma FF 12-24mm out in Dec. It should be around $1k street when it comes out...

I headache also, dunno wat to choose. Currently i am bidding for this len :
Nikon Nikkor AF28-200G f/3.5-5.6 IF-ED Lens, but seller must wait until 21/11 then can confirm.

How, anyone got comment on this len? And wat is the diff btwn D type and G type len? :embrass:

G has no aperture ring. Aperture must be set via the body's command wheel(s). (That means G lenses can't be used on MF bodies like FM2.)

D has aperture ring. To set aperture via the body's command wheel(s), you need to turn the aperture ring on the lens to the minimum setting (and optional lock it with a switch on the lens).

Both G & D will work fine with D100.

Yeah, my mind thought of one thing and my fingers typed another. Both you and Chuck are correct. The effective FOV should be equivalent to that of a 18-36.

I just realized your question could be interpreted differently and my previous reply could be misleading.

There're two current versions of 28-200:

28-200/3.5-5.6D IF
28-200/3.5-5.6G IF-ED

The G version is newer. They have different optical constructions and, thus, different optical quality. Since the G lens got ED glasses, I *speculate* it has better optical quality. (fyi, I haven't owned any of them myself.)
