Hello everyone,

thinking of getting a tripod for my SLR. Have narrow down my range to the slik 6600 or 8000 or any other brand that u recommend.

Need to know if it support a F60 with zoom 70-300 lenses?

At the same time, is anyone thinking of selling one?

Thanks

Hi Koh

Stay away from those slik tripods.....quite useless actually!! They flex and bend better than a yoga guru!!

I recommend that you go for the Manfrotto 190......best value for money honey!!!

Christine

Hi Koh, I have a Slik U8000 and its quite alright until you try and use your camera in portrait mode with a zoom lens...it creeps so somoothly down.... :(

its been relegated to a light stand for my flash when i need one... :light:

have since moved on to a gitzo....

Thanks people for your advice.

Have a better idea now

my recommendations: Manfrotto 190 ($140 +/-) with a Foba miniball head ($390 +/-). This configuration takes the F4s and 300 f/4 without any problems so it should be able to hold up the F60 and the 70-300

regards
andrew

Hi. Andrew

Thanks for the advice but the Foba ball head is out of my budget.

Any other cheaper option?

Lawrence:)

you could take a look at the Slik Pro Ball Head at CP.....

Larry is selling one Slik Pro Head at a good price.....

anyway, would the Manfrotto 488 be good enough?

Is SLIK tripods really lousy?

If really, can recommend me a better choice?

it really depends on what you will be loading your tripod with.

I own a SLIK U8000 and a Manfrotto 055ProB

SLIK tripods are light and fast when you are carrying a small digital camera like the Canon A40 or G3. or even up to a film camera like the light EOS300 (== to F60 , weightwise).

Pro:
Light: Can carry it around for long distances without feeling the weight. Nature Trails ... hikes in the park.
Fast: Can be set up simply by slapping down the frame supporting the legs of the tripod.

Con: A little unstable for taking those 30-60s exposure nighttime shots coz the camera will sway in some gusty wind. or with the rumbling traffic beside u on the benjamine sheers bridge ...

But then again, why complain if you wan a tripod tat fits your budget (<$90) for taking the occasional slow shutter speed shot ?
I've been using my U8000 with my EOS300 + 75-300 lens. no problems so far. Bought the 055 for more creative work. =) and of coz, to support my dream lens ... 70-200 f2.8 L

Someone recommended Manfrotto 190... is it good??
