You put normal UV filter and HMC filter side by side , look at the surface of those 2 filters you can tell the differences. HMC filters less reflection and rich colour tone. The clarity of HMC filter is damm good...$25++ only

And if you put that Hoya HMC beside a B+W MRC and/or Nikon L37C, the Hoya is going to fly out the window...

I think its pretty hard to find the B+W MRC F-Pro UV filters nowadays.. tried a couple of stores (CP said all their 67mm sold out). Finally got the last piece for $60 from Camera Workshop (this was 3 weeks ago BTW, so new stocks might have come in). I did get a 52mm B+W MRC from CP for $40 last week for my 50mm 1.8D Nikkor...

Should be normal fliter. But I have one 58mm HMC UV fliter. Should I get step down adapter?

Your lens front thread is 67, 58 is smaller than 67, what do you think will happen if you step down?

You'll definitely get vignetting.

Hmm...I see.

But if I get 50mm f/1.8. I have to get 52mm fliter?

Should I get D70 @ $2100 with kits or $1750 without kits? Is 18-70 good enough? Cause my aim for photography is to take street shots on people. Like walking, moving, jumping. If getting without kits, which lens suit for me?

If you are thinking of taking street shot, 50mm may not be long enough. The 18mm-70mm should be more suitable. I was using the 18-70mm on D70 to shoot people in Beijing last month, generally ok but on certain occassion, I wished I had up to 105mm.

Shooting at 50mm is likely to be make the subject conscious of you unless you make him or her feel comfortable by making small talk and asking permission, which I do half the time when shooting people.

Do you want shoot without the subject knowing?

For DSLR ,you use normal HMC Filter more than enough. But for conventional
SLR (Flim ) You really need a pro type.

Really? Is it because digital sensors are not sensitive to UV but IR? So no need to buy expensive UV filter?

actually film in film cameras have been immune to uv for quite some time now. the coating used in most lenses nowadays do a good enough job of stopping uv rays from affecting the film that you don't need a dedicated uv filter to do the job. And uv filters are the cheapest type of filter you can find in the market.

For those who wear spectacles, we do not have anything to protect the lens from scratches, dirt and so forth. But for lenses, we get a filter to protect the lens front element from scratches, dirt etc. Maybe, the lens cost more than 1k or even a few k for that matter. So, need to protect it for the peace of mind, just like buying insurance. But those lenses that cost 6k or more are usually those huge benemoths with front element beyong the size of the biggest filter, so no filter at all. The irony is that those huge lenses that cost a fortune are more in need of protection than those amateurish lenses that cost a mere 600 bucks.

So, I think getting those B&W or whatever esoteric filters is simply overkill. By the time you wear out the coating of the front element due to careful cleaning with microfibre every few days, it is about time to change the lens, as I reckon it would be in the order of 10 years or more usually. Why do I say so? My spectacle lenses last me a good 3 years with daily washing and wiping with ordinary tissue paper.

Got D70 today with kits and normal UV fliter @ $2100.

Hi guys....I just got the below 2 filters...

Hoya 67mm HMC UV filter for $35
