Need advice on compact camera bag

Hi all,
I recently bought my 1st DSLR (Nikon D40) and I now want to buy a compact camera bag. Went to Carrefour to take a look and the bags there seem big. I just want a bag that I can put the whole combination (body + standard lense) there, without having to take off the lense, and a very few more space to put the extra batteries or memory cards
So the question is,
1. Is it normal to put the whole camera (without taking off the lense) to a bag ?
2. Where could I find the so-called compact bag like I described just now ? And roughly, how much does it cost ? I don't need those hi-end one though

1. of cos its normal to put the whole camera in. changing lens here and there too often oni increases chances of dust getting in.

2. try the various camera retail shops like cathay photo, 3:16 etc. they should have it. cost varies, but for small bag, wun be too costly i guess.

I'm using a Lowepro Cirrus 140 when I only carry my EOS 400D with kit lens. It's got enough space for another two lens, which I use to store my 50mm prime lens that I to switch to quite often. I store my wires and dust blower in the other compartment. It's also got compartments for extra memory card and battery.

I believe you can get it at John 3:16 for about $55.

i see u got your answers but here a tip after reading ur post.

Remember to put on the cover for lens ( both ends) and for the cam ... will get dusty and maybe a scratch if you don't.
