Need advice for lens to accompany my coming OM-D EM-5

Which lens is most useful for me?

I would want either 45 f1.8 or the 25 f1.4 with EM5.... if I give in to the EM5 poison I will surely get the 25mm f1.4 and match it with my Canon 55mm f1.2 ;p yummy

Just now want to get the Panasonic Leica 25mm f1.4 @ MSC.
But no stock

Although I've only owned the Summilux for a few days, I have to say that it is a very satisfying lens to shoot with. The chunky lens feels so right when paired with the solid E-M5 body, like how fine wine goes with cheese, soya bean goes with you-tiao, curry sauce goes with chicken nuggets... You get the idea. ;) The image quality is top-notch, although there is a hint of purple fringing at high contrast edges. It doesn't really bother me, but it can be easily post-processed away with a couple of clicks. No wonder Panasonic is charging $800+ for this standard. It really sets the standard for all m4/3 lenses. I seriously recommend this lens for any m4/3 shooter, especially E-M5 owners.

I also checked with SLRR last week before getting mine used. No stock for at least a couple of weeks.

read from some of the forums that the rattlesnake problem in PL 25mm is quite serious when the battery depletes.

On a side note, what do you guys think of the combi : 20mm 1.7, 45mm 1.8 and 12-50mm ? Make sense ?

Combo wise seems strange. But if u bring only 12-50 or the other 2, then OK.

Yep I find the combi strange also but hey we all have our likes. I too sometimes (other system) brings my 16-80 and two primes 50 f1.4 and 85mm f2.8. I use my primes for portraits when I like to want a good isolation of my subject.

Agree bro manage to try this lens once on my epl2 and I like it.... Just that the price is. A it hard to swallow for me maybe wait when I got extra $$ I have tried the 45mm f1.8 but I have a lot of MF primes in the same range so that why I am really eyeing the Panasonic.

rattling could be due to the af motor not having enough power and it's cutting out... So far I have not heard from both current and ex owner of this lens in this forum who complains.. Even some reviews I've read and watched didn't mentioned them... Could be isolated cases or batch problem?

i used to own a copy of the PL 25mm F1.4 mounted on the EP3
it does have the rattling sound at times..
very very seldom though.. it seems to reduce if i turn off the continous focus (can't remember whether the setting is continous focus)..

from what i remember the rattling sound is due to the aperture blades moving when you move the camera..
i think the camera is metering and that's what is causing the blades to move..

Oh wow... hmmm anyways if you dont use it for move doesnt matter. I've own some old Minolta AF leneses using on my Sony DSLT and man when it focus specially when you're continous AF hehehe you could hear the gears and clanking sounds :-) but heck those old lenses show great IQ which matters most in the photo not the look and sound of the lens is it? :-)

To me as long it doesnt affect IQ i'm good dont need dead silent lens unless I use it for movie.

it definitely doesnt affect the IQ..

rattling is not as bad as the Sigma lens for Nex.. which i assume it happens to the m4/3 mount as well..
the internal components of the lens will move when it is not mounted on a camera that is powered on..
sometimes i wonder whether any damage will be done to the moving parts in the long run..

could be floating elements? I have not look at the lens tech sheet yet lolz

i did not read the manual..
but i read from the forum that the movements will stop when the camera is turned on..

so far also no effect on IQ..
still sharp wide open..

hi guys, is this considered a good lens combo for E-M5?

Camera - E-M5
Portrait shots - Panasonic Leica 25mm f/1.4
Telephoto shots - Olympus M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/4-5.6 R
Landscape shots - Olympus M.Zuiko 9-18mm f/4-5.6

I don't have much experience but I bet they will recommend you the 45mm f1.8 for portraits.

thanks for the advice on the combination guys. might need to rethink it over, perhaps dispose of my 12-50mm or something. I'll have a feel of the kit lense first i guess before deciding.

From my understanding on the postings i've read, the rattling usually occurs when pointed to a bright light source but using manual exposure could significantly reduce the occurrence. In my books, i probably wont be bothered but it but more concern if this rattling could result in long term damage to the glass.

Saw this vid from the other forum man that is loud.. but they said it's pretty obvious when you closes the aperture to 5.6 onwards and just by moving your camera to bright and dark area the clicking sound appears.
