Need Advice: 24-105 Lens Creep

Anyone tried to ask CSC to repair the creep? How much is the cost to tighten 24-105 zoom creep?

Sometimes it's annoying when we need to use the other hand to hold lighting/flash/etc :(

The more you wear out the zoom ring, the higher chance that the lens will zoom in or out when pointed down or upwards, but it's an internal zoom so the length doesn't change.

24-105 internal zoom?

Just live with it...not point waste money to tighten. It will happen again.

So the ones said their 24-105 doesn't creep then perhaps also creeps now after almost one year of use...

To solve the problem, don't buy this lens or sell it off......

Anyone with 15-85 lens that creep? Juz discovered mine does

Many years ago, I had an Adaptall Mount Tamron 35-135 lens with terrible lens creep. I read an article in an UK camera magazine that had a very simple solution that helped. All I did was stick a piece of scotch tape on the barrel; the added friction stopped the creep. My 24-105 is ok at the moment so I have not tried this on this lens but you can try it out!

I'm interested to find out...how does the lens "creep"????

Think needs to qualify the statement that all zoom lenses will creep...
Some zoom lenses which are fixed in length (internal focusing) will not creep, at least not obviously.
Examples are EFS 10-22mm, EF 70-200mm. These dont obviously creep.

So seriously, how to tell if the lens "creep"?!?

What if the scotch tape gets sucked into the lens with zooming in and out…then lagi worse right?

Bring the lens out. Turn it into the shortest length. (Usually the widest focal length)
walk about with it. Do not touch the zoom ring, just let it hang around.
If you see the lens extending after some time, (ie no longer at the widest focal length), it creeps.

my zooms all creep. The heavy lenses like 24-105mm and 17-55mm creep more obviously. Combination of gravity and usage

my 16-35 and 70-200F2.8IS USM2 never creep.... Cheap zoom lenses normally creep??? Hahaha.....

Err, obviously if it is too tight and the tape is being pushed off you will have to stop and take it off. In the case of my Tamron, it added just enough friction to keep the lens from creeping. It never caused a problem till I sold the lens 2 years later. If the tolerances in the 24-105 are soo tight that the tape gets scraped off then better remove the tape obviously.

Its got nothing to do with cost :P
But everything to do with lens design.
Those 2 lenses were designed to be non extending, so they will not creep. (not obviously)
Ditto the Cheapo EFS 10-22mm.

cheerios
