I have a friend that wants to do up a brouchure but does not have any budget for it.

Does anyone wanna do a porfolio on cakes and pastry and bread?

please let me know and I will set it up. Probably have to do it at night.

cheers

Will there be a pay for the service rendered?

service is free unless you are a tip top professional.

He wants to do a web page and brouchure... so I thought some CS people would like to take pictures of it.

cheers

Free bread & pastry (those used in the photos) :D

the ones in photos have chemicals sprayed on them to make them shine. I am not sure you want to eat them. ;)

Anything used for advertising should be paid for accordingly. Don't use the excuse of no budget & giving a chance to develop your portfolio/shooting skills as a cheap or free way to get work done. Likewise, photographers shouldn't belittle or demean themselves by doing free work unless it's for a good cause or charitable organisation. If it's good enough to be used, it good enough to be paid for. Just my 2 professional cents' worth.

I was being sarcastic.

I stand with cyrilng on this one.
All those who wish to take up this offer, please consider first and foremost that it is only fair for the shop/company which wishes to have its products shot and the pictures put up for advertising reasons, there MUST be a cost to go along with it. There should be no such thing as a shop which can operate but cannot afford even the menial fee of, say, $15, for the film itself (supposing one roll of Fuji Superia 200 at $3, develop and print for $12). And how about the photographer'(s) efforts? It is a very subtle form of exploitation at the very least to use something as suggestive as "you shoot for your portfolio, we keep the pictures."

This is just my personal opinion, and I say it without prejudice. I merely wish to highlight to those who read this thread to think about the subtleties and the nuances behind such a situation before you commit yourself. If there are those who are genuinely willing to do it for free, by all means. But the person who put up the offer should in the first place be willing to match someone's effort with a minimum sum for his work. Even a $50 ang bao can go a long way.

Just my $0.02.

Since he doen't have a 'budget', I suggest he gets a 'tip top professional' to work out how much it costs to shoot pictures fit for brochure uses.

jio a few sweet tooth frds for cakes n desserts... :D

take ya chance to shoot em all

It's strange that the shopowner only has budget for a tip-top professional.

I thought they had no budget?

The term "NO BUDGET" here means "no money".

:bsmilie:

Where are all the CS free service photographers? Do this as your porfolio. Just need to disclaim yourself if photo are not successful... Best is to have as many CS members to do the work, just like the spice garden project... ;)

"Want to do, do it, don't want to do, don't do lah."

For every jack-ass who refuse to do something, there are at least a dozen chaps lining up desperately to take up the opportunity. I'm sure he would get a 'free" photographer to do the job.

For all those "noble" photographer who think they are pro and want to get pay, why not you show him your portfolia and convince him how good you are?

FYI, before I turned full-time photographer, I was vitually shooting for free to get to know more contacts. Look at the long term. If you prove to be good, future paid assigments will follow. Whether you see this as being taken advantage of, or an opportunity, is up to you.

For me, wrong, I won't help because I know I'm good and I expect to be paid for my work, and I have no shortage of clients. Thank you.

I think you are quite harsh in your thread.:(

But somehow I do find your argument quite logical. My fellow photographers in my club jump at the slight opportunity to take photographs. The free service won't attract top notch photographer, like you, but it will definitely attract alot of aspiring young photographers, awaiting for an opportunities to break into the photography arena. Like raw diamonds, waiting to be polish ...
