Need a light weight zoom lens

AP as in Alan Photo? Just called them up and got quite a favourable quote from them. Almost $100 less than what you mention. Should be getting from them soon. Thanks!

I have it, and still use it on occasion ... sometimes the 80-200mm f/2.8 is just too cumbersome to lug around. Still better than what a friend of mine has ... the old 300mm f/2.8

Thanks for the feedback ericp. I will keep the points you mentioned in mind when using the lens if I get it. I don't use TCs anyway.

I agree with you on the 80-200mm. I have expereinced cramps from using it. Not something I would take along for travelling if you would like to travel light.

200? Prices drop fast. I wanted something with more functions. Think the reviews for most lenses of this range is that they are average from 70-200 and needs to be stopped to at least f8 for 300mm.

Not the Sigma lens. The 70-300mm G lens. Don't think the price keeps very well considering that it's one of the lens they give away when you get a body.

I mean the G. Din feel very solid to me. I was considering the 70-300 ED but couldn't justify the difference of 2x the G's price for less than 2x the quality/features. In the end settled for the sigma which supposedly have better reviews and a pretty usable !:2 macro mode. But if u r going for long-time keepers, i think i saw a 70-300 ED at TCW for 400+.
