Hi Ericulf... nope i dont use a black card. would love to try out.
I set my exposure base on the background 1st in this case the MBS... I usually underexpose the exposure by 1-2 stop to cater in the extra light from the fireworks itself... i then open the shutter right before the firework explodes and hold it open as the explosion occurs. i may need to adjust the exposure again base on the 1st shot of the firework. Afterwhich, i leave the setting for the rest of shoot... usually it works for me base on my own experience with fireworks...
