single F16 to fill the frame..near impossible unless you're tracking the plane since few km away.

Well, bro evenstar, please dun say impossible la. I will try to dig out some shots from the 2008 Airshow or the PLAB Open House to show you that it has been done before.

I am sure those who are into aviation photo would concur with me that it can be done, with the right technique, strategic location, appropriate gear and then, some cropping.

Weather permitting, I will be there next Sat to have a go at it. Well, we will have quite a number of CR for the shoot training.

There were a lot of activities at the sea and I couldn't change my camera set up quickly.

I was also blinded by the sun and couldn't really see the F16 approach and it was going supersonic.

HTH.

I will most probably go shoot the flypast.;p Please dun mind tell us why you couldn't capture them. Was it becos those F16 were flying at more than Mach1 that they arrive before you hear them, so not ready to shoot. Or was it becos you were not able to focus fast enough. Or you need to be on standby and get ready before they come fast and furious. :embrass:

I guess it ain't that easy to capture such moving target with a long lens and get a single F16 to fill the frame.

bro..i said near impossible, not impossible

ok la..to the amateur shooter, to get one F16 in the frame without cropping, that is very difficult. those at airshow/open house fly around the area for quite a while, while those at NDP simply just do one flypast with afterburner somemore

from AA2006, i got this, out of around 50 tries, and boy, it was damn difficult to track the plane with a 600mm (the jet was dunno how high up into the sky too)

uncropped

the f16s were flying very fast and the low light during today's CR didn't help too...

I concur, high altitude, high speed and bad light, killer combination to take of the F16 during NDP.

You only have one take.

why don't have pics from the inside of the rehearsal?:cry:

They are not anywhere near Mach 1.
They only speed up from near stall speed when they are ready to push from their respective holding points.

If u are interested in only capturing an F16 in action, you most prob have more luck at boonlay area. =)
Those guys would be able to fill a frame any day.

Regards

any spots to recommend?

though yesterday's rehearsal was dark, those F16s flying with afterburners were sick!

Not sure if its wise to say it out in the open in a public forum, cos i'm not sure if there are security issues linked with taking photos of a/c taking off/landing.. I understand that even for military personnel, they need to have special clearances to do that.. So... For now, lets just focus on taking pics of F16s during NDP yar?

What i meant was... The view, the beauty, the sound, the impact they make with their AB on when they take off. Its really a sight to behold.. =)

anyone knows where will be a good place to take holding area k for the apaches?

may i ask what time does the SG flag fly past the floating platform? cos today i camped at my area here, thinking the helicopters shld fly past my area ard 6.30-6.45pm (i thought that's the usual timing). in the end, they fly past me ard 7pm or 7.10pm. :( so never manage to capture any pics.

They flew past the floating platform at around 7pm. Fireworks starts at about 8.25pm.
