National serviceman needs maid to carry his backpack

THE Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) has completed its investigation into the recent case of a serviceman who was photographed with his domestic helper carrying his field pack ('Deafening silence in army backpack saga' by Mr Patrick Tan; last Saturday).

The serviceman concerned has identified himself to his commander.

He was a recruit undergoing the Physical Training Preparatory phase prior to the Basic Military Training phase.

The recruit is remorseful for his actions and realises that it was wrong for him to have allowed this.

He has been counselled and continues his training. The SAF has reminded all servicemen to be mindful of their conduct in public.

there was this moron on yahoo news who commented that "as i am an airforce regular doing his thesis for university, my maid carries my fieldpack while i have a video conference to discuss my thesis with my project group"

i replied to him saying "so your maid carries your fieldpack while you're sitting at your notebook chatting with friends. that's maid abuse"

but the point is, if an army regular can say that... what more will an NSF do it?

for someone to have tarnished the SAF's reputation so much... and caused a sensation around the world... just an apology will suffice? i doubt it's that simple. the SAF doesn't work this way.

the only reason why they're giving this explanation is to close this case quietly.
