There are no expiry date for the recognition of the many sacrifices that the former NSman had contributed so that we can live in peace.

This is the S$9000 poison that belittle their contribution by the Singapore marketing team that came up with this idea.

wau lau eh! This is for the lau peng!! I laughedx20!

Some kind soul listened and wrote the lyrics:

I serve my country
I serve my time
In my BMT
I didn’t mind
I give my blood
I give my sweat
And I never ever ask for anything back
Now you give money $9,000 bucks
To the new soldier
Then we get what?
We finish army and we ROD
How about all the years we go for ICT?
Chorus:
And we say army, army, army Oh~
Don’t want me, want me, want me No~
Why don’t you pay me, pay me, pay me Whoa~
Why is the Gahmen so one kind?
Is it cause I am, I am, I am old?
That’s why you are treating treating me so cold
I may have served a long long time ago
You should leave no man behind
***
We ate the sardines, we ate baked beans
Our food not catered, tray must ownself clean
We miss our mother at night in bunk we cry
When our girlfriend call to say goodbye
We are the Lau Peng, you don’t want us
We are the Lau Jiao, we very frus
Thou we are fat now can’t fit number 4
Don’t forget we also contribute before
Chorus x 1
When I was eighteen, I went to Tekong
Always drop twenty, cause the Corporal tell me so
Every day we chiong-sua, every day we 2.4
Everything must sign extra, wash the toilet mop the floor
Our PC crazy, wake us up so early
Our boots must kiwi, kiwi until so shiny
Our time no welfare, only can get tekan
But now so take care, $9k give to all our sons!
Chorus x 1
*End*

Remember those army ads that keep stressing how important ICT is, and as citizens we should not think that its a waste of time and should always make an effort to go for all ICTs. I really find it so ironic now with this $9000 NSRA!

If we siam ICT, IPPT or even RT the SAF wont hesitate to charge us.
Now got money just conveniently forget about us....

So what is the message we get?
Why care about the 'old' who sacrificed sweat and blood for this country? Its the young blood that matters to them.
Am I the only one who feels this somehow resonates with gahmen's FT and immigration policy?

Gahment shouldn't fix something that is not broken. Just lower New HDB cost and not say market forces , blah, blah, blah, high construction cost, blah, blah, if they really wants to help the younger generation. But Nooo, build designer flat but inside small. I think we want bigger flat, don't care if it looks spartan on the outside. Last time 4 room almost as big as today's 5 room.

Recently saw SM Goh say we complain too much and we victim of our own success, REALLY? Malay got this saying, who eat chilli will feel the burn in the mouth, aka direct translation.

I think best gahment lay low and let us complain, at most that is all we can do.

How to lay low? it's nearing new selection process.

They should, since many of us don't get any. By adding remarks or trying to give excuses, will only fuel a dying fire.

Really, it's becoming something petty, and lao jiaos here are resilient enough to go thru this painful and sad episode. But this might provide the opposition party some ammo lah.

if you did not realise, it is already the buying season.

Looks like Hitler got the correct intel about the award compared to the Singapore marketing team that came up with this idea.

my unit has stand down but i own NS 1 high key so did not get my MR cert. Does that mean i get the 3rd payment of $3000.00 when i reach age 40? :dunno:

anyway, the $ is going into CPF.. can see the money cannot touch it... :bheart:

can use CPF to repay loans.

While I was switching back and forth between the Rally speech & the Belgian F1, one point that really caught my interest is the National Service Recognition Award.

"NSmen will get $9,000 each in a move to show that Singapore citizens come first. Only NSmen who are citizens will be eligible for the award, which will be distributed in tranches."

Does it includes those NSman now classified as under MR (Mindef Reserve) like myself that went through a 13-year cycle instead of the current 10-year for NSmen? Like thousands others, we serve our country without fail, hope we are not forgotten and be left out.

Hopefully in the next few days more info will be made available.

MOney not enough!

in today's paper, sm goh is saying that gahmen is looking into recognising 'old nsmen' for their contribution to the country too. hurray!

55years to 61 year old. Wonder what the figure involved.

Anyway, most likely credit to CPF's medical portion.

Aiyoh, Gahmen again working reactively not proactive.

Like I said, if want to give, all should get lah. If too expensive, then don't bother suggest or implement. Nobody ask for it in the first place.

let's await the news. not be too quick to shoot from the hip. i am below 55 y.o., naturally, i am concerned too.
