question photo buyer should ask themselves.....do I take the same subjects as what NASA folks did? Does it really matter if Nikon can also take great photo from outer space? It just proves that they can do that but seeing I won't be going to the outer space for at least quite a while, whatever camera that "lands" on my hand I'm a happy shooter ;p

The reason NASA does not use Canon DSLR and lenses is simply because the fluorite lens elements in Canon professional L series lenses are prone to cracking and fracturing from the strong vibrations induced when a Space Shuttle is launched as fluorite is extremely brittle.

Nikon Super Extra-low Dispersion (ED) lens element is not as susceptible to shock and vibrations along with sudden temperature changes as fluorite lens element does. :)

Yes, that's why the telephoto lenses are painted white to prevent thermal expansion/contraction which might stress the fluorite elements.
