Wonder

Alright, this is the last of the photos from my annual trip to the Singapore zoo. Am thinking of getting a zoo pass so that I can go more frequently and practice in the future, but I'll be going to the bird park and getting the bird annual pass next sat

I learnt alot in this trip. Notably, I discovered that processing becomes so additively simple with good light. Most of the photos didn't even require 10 minutes. After looking through all my photos, I also realise that I'm still some ways off my target, Mr. Boza Ivanovic. There are still a few tricks that I need to learn on back-lighting and rim light. Will review, reimagine, and hopefully do better during my next trip to the zoo with an emphasis on vision and moment :)

Eventually, I hope to attain the ranks of Greg Du Toit and Federico Veronesi. But a step at a time, Boza Ivanovic comes first ;p

So that's it, I really hope you guys had enjoyed the photos from the zoo :) Time to go back to work on my crappy birding shots again :/

#20, #36 and #65 are my favorites… Great work…:)

Hey Ms Goh! I just did a double take to make sure that I'm not in my landscape thread. Certainly didn't expect to see you here.

Thanks! I'm really glad that you like them. On retrospect, I have also found myself to be taking a liking towards shots with more negative space as well, so I should be doing more of them in the future :)

I actually forgot about this shot; I sent my entire zoo folder into the archive for deep storage before I suddenly remembered it one night. Well, here's one of the resident from the zoo :P

This is shot at f8, I think it looks alot alot better than f6.3 the moment I put it into ACR (#66 is shot at f6.3). The micro details are starting to come out; the lens really resolve much better at f8. The zoo photos are fine at f6.3 because I don't need the micro details.

Processing wise, I'm finally starting to get it... will rework on #66 with a changed workflow when time permits.

Reworked #66, looks alot better with the new workflow. But f6.3 is still nowhere near f8's detail.

On a side note, I notice my keep rate of handheld Tamron 150-600 with VC is higher than tripod without VC. Hmmm...

Black Napped Oriole, Juvenile

To test how much lens resolution made a difference to the final image, I brought out my best lens (and ironically never-used-before-since-I-bought-it lens) for a walk: Sigma 180mm f2.8 OS Macro. To put it into perspective on how good the lens is, let's just say it makes the Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS II look like the Tamron 150-600 in test charts.

Man, it's totally another world using a lens with improved resolving power. I can see how the 600mm primes shots obtain their details. It's amazing. So is the price tag of the 600mm primes. Shrugs :(

Common Myna

Actually, the reason why I post this shot is because the Myna was super huge. I had never seen a bigger Myna in my life; it was about 30cm - 35cm long. The Mynas in Chinese Garden sure live a good life: good food good stay, good sleep heh.
