Thank you very much. I think your are talking about "Mahar Gandar Yong Monastery" at Amarapura. :)

Kalaw (Primary School)

I invaded into the primary school in Kalaw town. They don't have modern facilities and good classrooms like schools from other countries. However, the student lives they have is full of joy. Their faces say it all.
It put me on tear while they all waved and said bye bye when I left the school. I will definitely go there again and give them print.

Dhamanyangyi Pagoda, Bagan

This is the biggest pagoda in Bagan. Bagan has more than 2000 over ancient Pagodas. During my trip, I only spent two days in Bagan.
If you want to explore all the pagodas, I think you will need to spend 1 month. :)

Hi, I was in Bagan in December too.
Did you take those sun rise photos at Shwesandaw Pagoda?

Plan to go there in 2014. Can someone help to post some trip advisory? Flying there is simple, just buy air ticket but moving around, where to stay and to go etc.

Would 3-4 days be enough? No shopping, just scenery and street photography. When is the best time? Please share. Thanks.

Myanmar is Big country not like Singapore where you can visit whole country in 3 to 4 days. One city to another is quite far in Myanmar eg. 7-8 hours bus ride or 45 mins by domestic flight. The most attractive cities are Yangon, Mandalay, Bagan, Nyaung Shwe (Inle Lake). One week is not enough to visit these four major cities unless you use domestic flight to visit one city to another.

I went there for 2 weeks trip and had visited only 4 cities (Yangon, Mandalay, Bagan & Kalaw). If you only can spend 3 to 4 days, you can only visit one city or at most 2. Those only go there for 3-4 days like to visit Yangon and Golden Rock.

The best time to go Myanmar is during winter Nov to Feb.

Hope this help.

Hi thanks for your prompt response. Of course I won't be able to visit the whole country but key areas around the capital. Ok for max 4-5 days. Will visit again to explore other areas.

Do we need a guide and book a driver?

If you are not budget traveller like me, you can hire guide. Or if you do you can research via online or books (lonely planet or tripadvisor) for the places you wish to go.

There are plenty of car taxi and motorcycle taxi(if you travel solo) in most of the cities. Just negotiate the price before you take the taxi and they fare is very cheap.

In Yangon, you don't need a guide or book a driver. It's pretty easy to go around.
However, places like Inle Lake and Bagan, having a guide is great.
They will bring you to the best places.
I paid about USD25 for my guide in Bagan. Car with driver about USD30. The hotel can arrange for you.

Things you need to do first,
1) get your visa,
2) make sure you got the domestic flight tickets booked. You have to email them to make booking.
3) or you can go to Peninsular Plaza, Yanada Travel, just across bata shop level 1, and look for Kim.

Thank you for sharing your tip.

In Bagan, I rent bicycle to roam around for 2 days. The bicycle from hotel (Shwe Nadi Hotel) is only 1500 Kyats per day (S$2) .

In Inle Lake, the hotel (Remember Hotel) arranged a boat man for me. He came and pick me at the hotel and sent me all the attractions.

That why I didn't need a guide. But You have to know which places you want to go at least lah. :)
