Back to DRAGON ARMOR SCALE 1:72. This is how "big" these models are. Given the size I really salute their models moulding and marking + details - one of a kind

korean-sherman1comparev1.jpg~original

These 3 tanks are from KOREAN WAR series. 60th ANNIVERSARY limited editions (once quantities sold out never produced again)

The Korean War was a war between North and South Korea, in which a United Nations force led by the United States of America fought for the South, and China fought for the North, which was also assisted by the Soviet Union. The war arose from the division of Korea at the end of World War II and from the global tensions of the Cold War that developed immediately afterwards.

28270827984_06ee2c4eb9_o.jpg

M4A3E8 (76W) HVSS, 24th Infantry Div., Han River, Korea 1951 - The M4A3E8 Sherman has improved Horizontal Volute Spring System (HVSS) suspension and wider tracks. This model has the long-barreled 76mm M1A1 gun, depicting the most common Sherman variant to see combat during the Korean War. The actual tank depicted is from the 5th Infantry Tank Company of the 24th Infantry Division. This particular division was the first US Army formation dispatched after war broke out on the Korean Peninsular. Deployed from Japan, it spent the first 18 months in heavy combat with North Korean troops.

The striking tiger markings on the nose, turret and hull sides were applied for Operations Killer and Ripper in February-March 1951, operations that were part of a big push to recapture Seoul and decimate enemy forces. This was the fourth time Seoul had been conquered within the space of a year. The markings applied to tanks were supposed to inspire friendly troops and intimidate superstitious North Korean soldiers who held the tiger in awe!

Dragon Armor - M4A3E8 (76W) HVSS, Co.C, 89th Tank Battalion, Han River, Korea 1951 (Dragon Armor 60469)

28270827994_36e9d646b8_o.jpg

M4A3E8 (76W) HVSS, Co.C, 89th Tank Battalion, Han River, Korea 1951 - The Korean War was fought between 25 June 1950 and 27 July 1953, when a shaky ceasefire was signed. This bloody conflagration came hot on the heels of WWII, and it essentially pitted Western countries against communism. Unsurprisingly, the USA employed equipment that dated back to WWII usage. One such "legacy" tank commonly employed during the Korean War was the M4A3E8 Sherman, often referred to as "Easy Eight" thanks to its E8 nomenclature. It was distinguished by its Horizontal Volute Spring System (HVSS) and wider tracks. The stronger suspension allowed thicker armor, and it was also armed with a long-barreled 76mm M1A1 gun. The M4A3E8 entered combat in December 1944, and there were still plenty around to fight North Korean and Chinese forces more than five years later.

The actual tank is an example from the 89th Tank Battalion fighting near the Han River in 1951. This battalion, part of the 25th Infantry Division, was activated in Korea in August 1950. It participated in ten campaigns during the Korean War. The tank has received mouth and eye markings in order to intimidate enemy combatants.

Dragon Armor - T-34/85, Chinese Volunteer Army, Korea 1950 (Dragon Armor 60487)

28856924646_b505803f42_o.jpg

T-34/85, Chinese Volunteer Army, Korea 1950 - China entered the Korean War on October 19, 1950, and Chinese forces did not completely withdraw until 1958. To avoid any official war with the USA, Chinese soldiers fought under the auspices of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army (PVA), even though they were all members of the People's Liberation Army (PLA). The initial assault by 270,000 PVA troops on October 25, 1950 caught the UN completely by surprise. One of the armored vehicles that China deployed during the Korean War was the Soviet-designed T-34/85 tank. Indeed, it was the most powerful armored vehicle the communist side fielded during this brutal conflict. This fully built-up T-34/85 bears authentic markings of the PVA. While Dragon Armor has released versions of the T-34/85 before, up till now they have all been in Soviet markings. This latest tank is thus all the more exceptional with its Chinese ownership and tactical markings. With full detail replicated in miniature, and with an amazingly well-crafted paint finish and weathering effects, this impressive T-34/85 is ready to take on its UN foes on the troubled Korean Peninsular!

KMDB T-34 - Designed to replace the Soviet BT-5, BT-7 and T-26 infantry tanks, the T-34 was produced between 1940 and 1958. The T-34 is often regarded as one of the most successful and most influential tanks of the era. It was WWII's most highly produced tank and history's second most highly produced tank. The T-34 had a powerful engine, wide tracks and heavy armor. It was continuously refined, and by 1944 had gained a more powerful 85mm gun and a superior three-man turret design. The success of the T-34 can be measured in part by its longevity - by 1996, T-34s were still serving in 27 nations around the world.

28856959896_ce8b8e85d4_o.jpg

Sd.Kfz.222 Leichte Panzerspahwagen, Unidentified Unit, France 1940 - To support its mobile concept of modern warfare, Germany introduced a wide range of tracked and wheeled armored vehicles. One wheeled family of vehicles introduced in 1936 included 4x4 armored cars known as the, which translates as Light Armored Reconnaissance Vehicle. Powered by a Horch engine, these vehicles were based on a Horch 801 heavy car chassis to which an armored body was added. Early in WWII it performed well enough as a reconnaissance vehicle for panzer divisions, although its off-road capability let it down. Dragon Armor is introducing a model from the Leichte Panzerspahwagen family - the Sd.Kfz.222. It is armed with a 2cm KwK.30 L/55 cannon and MG34 machine gun in an open-top turret. A crew of three operated the Sd.Kfz.222

28856959876_7b1a461341_o.jpg

IJA Type 95 "Ha-Go" Light Tank North China Version, Koushurei Tank School, North China 1941 - This vehicle is used in combat against China and Russia, as well as fully participating in WWII. Weighing just 7.4 tonnes, it was designed primarily as an infantry support weapon. Indeed, it was the most common light tank used by the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) in the Pacific, with about 2,300 units manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. It had a crew of three, and the main armament was a Type 94 37mm gun. Its maximum speed was 45km/h

28856959866_1b676a1669_o.jpg

IJA Type 97 "Chi-Ha" Late Production, Co.5, 9th Tank Regiment, Saipan 1944 - Type 97 Chi-Ha tank is Japans most widely produced medium tank of WWII. Boasting a short-barreled 57mm main gun and two Type 97 machine guns, this tank was intended to serve as an up-scaled version of the Type 95 for infantry support. Armor protection was modest on this vehicle. A total of 2,123 tanks were produced from 1938-43, although 930 of these were of the improved Type 97 Kai version featuring a higher-velocity 47mm gun. The tank could move at a speed of 38km/h.

The Chi-Ha was used in combat in Manchuria and China, as well as fighting against the Allies. Indeed one of the largest tank attacks of the Pacific theater occurred at Saipan in 1944 when 36 Type 97 tanks of the IJAs 9th Tank Regiment conducted an all-out attack against US Marines. This model portrays one such Type 97 Chi-Ha medium tank that participated in this ferocious battle on Saipan. The colorful camouflage paint scheme is particularly well rendered. The accurate markings such as Japanese characters on the side of the hull, national flag emblems, prominent turret images and rear number plate. These markings are very interesting, especially when compared with contemporary Allied or German markings.

M4A4, Free French Army, Marseille 1944 - Since the Sherman M4A4 was powered by a Chrysler WC Multibank engine (formed from five commercial automobile engines aligned on a common driveshaft), the tank required a lengthened rear hull to accommodate it.

A great many M4A4s of the 7,499 produced were delivered to Allied armies like the British and Free French. Free French Forces had been established after General De Gaulle and the exiled French government issued a call to arms on 18 June 1940.

By the time of the Normandy campaign in 1944, Free French Forces numbered 400,000. The Free French 2nd Armoured Division drove south to Paris, while the 1st Army joined in the invasion of southern France.

Challenger 2, Royal Army, BATUS, Canada - The Challenger II is one one of the most advanced main battle tanks. It has outstanding firepower, protection and mobility.

About BATUS:
Lacking adequate training areas for armoured manoeuvre warfare in Europe the British had long maintained a training establishment in Canada, called BATUS (British Army Training Unit Suffield). This area allowed British armoured units in Germany to fly over to Canada in rotation during the summer and test their skills against the resident OPFOR unit. The realistic training at BATUS was considered the best test of the skills of individual battle groups.

The heavy tank battalion, s.Pz.Abt.507, operated Tiger I and Tiger II tanks during WWII. It was originally formed on 23 September 1943 in the Vienna area, before being dispatched to the Eastern Front in March of the following year. On 31 May 1944, it was serving with Army Group North in the Ukraine with a total of 47 Tiger I tanks. In innumerable clashes against the relentless tide of Soviet forces, the unit's Tigers attempted to stem the flood. Decimated, s.Pz.Abt.507 was withdrawn in February 1945 to refit with Tiger II tanks, and the unit finally surrendered to American forces in Czechoslovakia on 12 May 1945. Subsequently, prisoners were turned over to Russia after the cessation of hostilities.

Dragon Armor - Panther F, Berlin 1945 (Dragon Armor 60043)
28813014611_c6ca820ff7_o.jpg

Panther F, Berlin 1945 - Among all variants of the Panther Tank, the Panther Ausf F is certainly the most rare and mysterious.
Design work on the Panther II, or Ausf. F, began in February 1943. The main aim was to secure maximum interchangeability of parts with the Tiger II heavy tank in order to ease manufacturing. The Panther II had a hull similar to the Tiger, although with increased side armour, and also shared identical wheels, track, suspension and brakes. The major change was a new, narrow turret, sometimes called the Panzerturm Schmal (Schmalturm turret). Compared to the original, this turret was lighter, had a reduced frontage, could take a larger gun, and was quicker to build. It also fitted the same turret ring and had thicker armor. It included a stereoscopic rangefinder and gyrostabiliser and could fit the L/70, L/100 guns or even the same 88mm gun as the Tiger II. An upgraded engine was also included. The failing economic situation in Germany at the end of the war halted Panther II production at the prototype stage
