HK137 Policeman with Martini Henry Carbine Standing on Guard Duty (King and Country HK137)
"Policeman with Martini Henry carbine standing on guard duty."
Hong Kong Island was occupied by British forces on 20 January 1841 from the Chinese and later formally ceded to the United Kingdom. The British established a crown colony in Hong Kong.
Early social and economic problems existed in the colony as there were drastic differences between Eastern and Western philosophy and culture. A colonial police force was established in the 1840s to handle the high crime rate in Hong Kong.
