Hong Kong Island was occupied by British forces on 20 January 1841 from the Chinese and later formally ceded to the United Kingdom. The British established a crown colony in Hong Kong.

Early social and economic problems existed in the colony as there were drastic differences between Eastern and Western philosophy and culture. A colonial police force was established in the 1840s to handle the high crime rate in Hong Kong.

The Martini-Henry Rifle (carried by the figure model) is used by the British Empire and her colonies for over 30 years. It was England's first service rifle - a *breech-loading metallic cartridge firearm using .45 Caliber cartridge (for the Carbine version)

* A breech-loading weapon is a firearm in which the cartridge or shell is inserted or loaded into a chamber integral to the rear portion of a barrel. Modern mass production firearms are breech-loading (though mortars are generally muzzle-loaded).

The Type 10 is an advanced Japanese main battle tank. It became the 4th-generation military tank that the JGSDF (Japan Ground Self Defense Force) has been equipped with, and boasts significant enhancements in its capability to respond to anti-tank warfare, mobile strikes, special operations force attacks, and other contingencies.

It is operated by a crew of THREE only

This model tank is at 1/144 scale (height less than a 50 cents coin as shown above) but the details, tracks and mouldings are so crisped and fine - simply fantastic stuff !

France at the time of World War II had many colonies in Africa from Algeria, Morocco, Mali, Camaroon, etc. In 1940, the French army included more than 100,000 black French soldiers from France’s African colonies, mainly Senegal, Mauritania, and Niger. More than 75,000 of them served in France before and during the German invasion.

"Senegalese" was a term often used for black colonial troops. France continues to have strong military and political ties with its former colonies till this day.

France, along with the British Empire, was one of the first participants in World War II after declaring war on Germany following Germany's invasion of Poland in 1939. Depicted here is a Frecnh Officer figure model in 1939 - 1940.

The French Army of WWII faced the problem of desertion with apathy (the French Army faced all of it's challenges with apathy in 1939-40). As a result, there was an epidemic of desertion and other morale/discipline problems during the "phony war" of Sept 1939 - April 1940. In fact, British troops stationed in France in 1939-40 nicknamed desertion "French leave". During the Battle of France an unknown number of French soldiers were shot for desertion, cowardice, and looting.

The Panther was the best all-round German tank of the war and although conceived as a medium tank, at 45 tons and with frontal armor over 100mm thick, it could easily be rated more highly. This tank is best used in a supporting role or as a front-line offensive tank due to its agility.

The Type 61 was the first indigenous Japanese tank-design effort since the end of World War 2. It was developed from 1954 through 1961 on the basis of the American M47 tank. The dimensions of the vehicle were decreased and the armor was reduced. As a result, the weight of the tank was lighter, and the tank complied with the requirements of the Japanese armed forces.

The Type 61 Main Battle Tank was built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Development started in 1955 - just 10 years after WW2. The WW2 (1938-1945) Type 97 Chi-Ha Medium Tank was also produced by Mitsubishi.

Noticed the similarities of the hull, wheels, engine exhausts between the Type 61 and Type 97. Well it would be no surprise since both tanks are from the same manufacturer - Mitsubishi !

The M48 was the final version of the Patton series, named after General George S. Patton. The first M48s were produced from 1952 to 1959, but the Vietnam-era A3 was a modernized and refurbished variant that first rolled out in February 1963. It had a supercharged diesel instead of a gasoline engine and an enhanced fire control system.
