A quiet park bench on Mt Faber...

I have just hiked on a glacier, kayaked in a fjord, seen Doubtful Sound, walked 55km in 5 days, walked in the rain, through flooded waters, had a pick up by a helicopter, then ascended a mountain pass in hail, snow, and rain, then took the best rainbow shot in my life, and nursing a blister over a cup of warm soup after cooking for my fellow travellers.

how did you organise the South Island trip? did you go free-and-easy? did you need a guide for the Milford Sound trek?

Ultimate Hikes, I paid about 1.6k (NZ$)
Bunk beds, hot shower and all meals, guide plus a Milford Sound Cruise for 5 days of hiking. Its only 3-400 more than the independant hikers, who do not get meals, washing and drying facilities, meals or guides and the cruise.
