My take on LX2 (newbie shots)

I believe that you were quoted $685 without GST by Alan Photo ?

I enquire the price of LX2 today. The sales person in Cathay at Marina was friendly, but quoted me 760. The price is too high. Another sales person in Alan Photo at Sim Lim was extremely unfriendly and arrogant, but quoted me 685. If he could have been more friendly and sincere, I would have bought from him.

That strange. I just called CP at Peninsula Plaza and he quoted me $725 including GST.

Yesterday, I went to Cathay Marina and was quoted $760. This afternoon I was at Cathay Pennisula and the sales person with friendly attitude quoted me $720 with GST. Too bad, they do not have LX2 black colour in stock.

When I asked the Alan Photo's saleman if the price was inclusive of GST yesterday, he did not give an affirmative reply. I couldn't figure out from his gesture if GST is included. The attitute was so bad that I didn't bother to ask anymore.

Anyway, I've just came back from MS Colour with a new LX2 black. The price from MS Colour is $699 inclusive of GST with a 512MB SD card and a case. Good and friendly services from MS Colour.

cool...my friend got one black lx2 from ms color too. ms color has consistent good service...i dun bother with alan photo anymore. unless you're an angmoh or you're a regular..then shud receive acceptable service. i went there quite a number of times and they give me that, "you got money meh" kind of look. do a search on clubsnap and you'll see.

You said it right. I had a very bad feeling when I left the shop yesterday. The "you got money meh" kind of look is exactly the gesture that they conveyed to me. I'm 40 plus years old and not a young man. I'm glad that I don't have to buy a LX2 from them. In future, I shall avoid the shop even though their prices may be slightly cheaper or if I get to know the boss of the shop. You really must avoid SLS when shopping for photographic equipment.

I bought my LX2 from Alan Photo Sim Lim, $682 including GST, free 1G SD card.

Service is good.

is this camera far superior than TZ1?

I don't need zoom lens nowdays, which was previous more for events and portraits.

Wide angle can always add other factors into photos other than the object itself. So yah, depends on what you need the camera for.

Just for your info LX2 is one of the widest compact digital camera on the market now, and it comes with 4x zoom still. Although it's very rare for me to zoom in, heh...

oh the tz1 has is not wide lens?

i thought it was?

anyway i was considering getting a kodak V610 as it looked really cool comapred to the tz1..

i am not sure if i need the 10x zoom but since i intend to get a second camera, i thought why not get a better zooming one.

Anyway guys hows the Lx2?

looks like if i get this, i dun have to upgrade for a long time.

But price wise i am not sure.

Wads the cheapest price for the Tz1 now?

and been in the markt for 1 yr now, is there a sucessor soon?

like a TZ2?

imho photo quality is more important than the looking of the camera itself.

more zooming doesn't necessarily give you a better camera. for compact cameras when the focal lens increase, the photo quality usually decrease a lot, at the same time aperture decrease too.

telephoto lens always need a faster shutter speed to conpensate hand shake compare to wide angle, but when aperture become smaller, it's hard to obtain fast shutter.

i'm not sure about the TZ series, but as a DSLR back to DC user, I believe LX2 is a good choice. and the 10 Megapixel is way more than enough.

wad abt the noise issue .. i hear that panasonic always have this isse of noise once above iso 200

oh i have read on this and it it did mentioned abt the noise issue... wads an altrnative of the lx2 that has no noise issue?

if you are concern about noise... fuji f-series is for you... but they don come with a leica lens and stabiliser.

I am yet to find the noise issue a problem for LX2. Because I hardly use ISO more than 200.

Besides, if most of your photos are only for posting online after resizing, and you won't look at them with 100% scale all the time, I think having a bit of noise is still a small problem.

And since you need to post process digital photos anyway, some noise reduction would have done the job for you. ;)
