My PowerShot S5 IS

Turn your mode dial to M, aperture put to f/8 (no choice as that's the max) and shutter speed put to 2 secs.

There's no cable release for the S5 IS so no choice, have to manually trigger off which will cause camera shakes.

And most imptly, use a tripod.

Agree, can also use timer as to avoid manual shake. Etc, I use custom timer, 2 second for 3-6 images. No shake & higher chances of better fireworks quality and pic choices.

I don't recommend using the timer as what it takes does not mean that u'll like it.

Hi guys, was thinking of getting the sanyo eneloop batt for its efficient energy storage. However it is of below the manual recommended charge of 2300mah, think abt 2000 - 2100mah. Anybody use it or has any advice on it b4 I invest in one?

I've been using them for a very long time already for both my S5 IS and 580EX II. No probs at all whatsoever.

recently all the shot i taken are noisy and i wondering why is it so.

is it because i use AUTO mode? btw all shot taken are indoor together with the built in flash.

In auto mode, the camera will automatically adjust your ISO between 100 and 400. In indoors, it's easier to see noise caused by higher ISO. What i did is to always use Av mode and do your own settings.

Usually what is the ISO setting u set for indoor?

Is there any thing that i can use to block the direct flash from my camera? the direct flash on the photo is too harsh.

Indoors usually i'll use ISO 400. On my DSLR up to 1600. Aperture open to the largest.

U can improvise by using tissue paper to diffuse some light.

I have been using the eneloop batteries all along. No problem. Everytime you take out the camera after a few weeks or months, the battery is still charged. For normal rechargeables, you always have to recharge again.

Did the manual actually recommend min 2300 mAh? I don't recall seeing it.

IMHO, always get Canon's speedlites. Its compatible, easy to setup and learn. Downside of course its pretty much expensive but hey u might never know u'll get a canon dslr in the future and u can save up by using the same flash unit.

For other cheaper flash unit alternatives, u can always drop by the shops and enquire.

Hi, I got my Sunpak PZ40X flash from Amazon.com. Including shipping and stuff, it came up to slightly over $250. You can consider that if you are looking for a flash that can be bounced. No swivel though, so it's limited if you take portrait (vertical, not pictures of people ;p) shots. The main reason I got the Sunpak was cos it uses only 2 AA batts instead of the usual 4.
