anyway a S5IS can take pictures like that?

These are either filtered or photoshopped.

I almost always never buy online cos shipping will either outstrip the savings in price or they don't ship to SG. The only place I buy online is through www.play-asia.com (but not for camera stuff). They are based in HK and offer free shipping to SG, reach in 10 days or less. Then again, I am going OT....

Actually, i believe these are heavily processed images and even DSLRs that take them also need further work on the PC. There's a processing technique known as HDR but for the second image with moving subjects throughout the entire frame (water droplets), I find HDR also a bit hard to believe.

Hi all,

I'm planning to get the S5 within this month, but am still uncertain of my decision.
Main issue being a total novice in the area of photography. So is the S5 a good start to learn about this hobby?
Secondly, my knowledge on camera equipments is not high. What will I be getting in the package? Any essential items that I should consider to purchase? "What-to-dos" when trying out the camera?

Very capable camera, but have you considered all other choices? Have you been to dpreview to check available choices? How about SX100? Slightly more pocketable... How about G9? More powerful and versatile, better build quality.

just want to know-what is ur budget? there r many options for beginners it really depends on $ and what ur shots majority be about. bout equipments get ur camera than think about lenses, filters ect. Your camera should come with memory card, batteries(if lithium) mini tripods as freebies. It's quite fun buying cameras enjoy!

Versatility wise the S5 IS is better than G9, though less compact, no RAW output and 2MP lesser.

You sure need a adapter tube, then, depending on your requirement and expectation, you have choices of wide angle conversion lens, tele conversion lens, macro lens, close-up filters, etc.

Among all, the close-up filter I think is the cheapest.

And I think close up is also one of the most fascinating aspect of photography.

Lensmate makes the adaptors for the S5 no?

Yeah, I will most definitely do that. I hate to wait for stuff to come. And since you are saying that, can I know where you get them locally? TIA!

As soon as I bought my S5 at Best Denki Vivocity, I bought my lens adaptor and Wide Angle converter at the Canon shop opposite GV Box Office immediately. ;)

oh, you are talking about the first party original Canon stuff. I am talking about a totally different brand. Lensmate has quite a bit of options for Canon PNS cameras. You might want to check them out.

Has the pricing for the wide conversion lens dropped or still at $180?
