anyway Ansel Adams once said it's the photographer who makes the picture...

there was an online article of how Astromoners calculated all the right timing and conditions for a particular famous Moon Shot he took sometime back and when all the "pros' with their "pro" equipment came to take the shot with all the right lighting, weather conditions and the right spot they could not replicate Adam's shot!

so whether it's FZ-18 or S5 IS or D300 or 5D or what the camera has or where it's manufactured it's not so crucial

imho even if you've got a poor quality camera can still make great shots i think... i've see great art shots made form cell phones and pin-hole cameras!!!

it's really your skills and creativity

that said i must say i'm happy with my S5 IS at a great price! it helps me make wonderful pictures!!!

Gd for u then...for me my 4GB one is more than enough as it's my secondary camera. Yes the shots are great but when taking shots at the tele-end, purple-fringing seems a bit prominent.

yep 4GB should be more than enuff - i needed more because of video recording and i didn't want to keep opneing and closing the battery compartment to change the card

yes the S5 IS does have more visible purple fringing... that's true

while i can understand why some may be concern about the purple-fringing etc but unless you are shooting shots that's for professinal use it's not a big matter i think for us more humbler non-pro folks

in any case maybe the purple-fringing can be creativley exploited for a more creative shot?

The effects of the purple-fringing can sometimes be very nice with the soft effects. Anyway i agree that the image quality isn't that important as it's only for casual use. But when it comes to DSLR, it's the other way round.

I have heard so also, no idea. The S3 actually has slightly less noise then the S2. Think the S5 pixel density is too high, such a small sensor and they packed 8MP into it. Anyone with both a S3 & S5 care to comment?

Haven't tried any Zeiss lens for the Sony Alpha, only tried Leica. ;p

Ahhh.... the red dot. One thing I like about range finders is that you do not need batteries to shoot. Was on Mt Fuji about 10 years ago, in winter. Think I was the only one able to take photos, as my most of my friends camera's batteries had frozen. It was a bit awkward winding the film with gloves on though.

BTW, I saw a colleagues (using S3) took some photos during a Korea trip which quite impressive; color is good, pictures is sharp..

no lah 8pixels aren't too much to pack into the S5. even real small compacts have high pixels that are sooooo useless. actually pixels aren't THAT important. i wish camera companies will work on cams with lower sound instead of pressing soooo hard on pixels and high ISO. S5 wouldbe a PERFECT cam with a RAW file

This works with the S2 & S3. So nice to shoot RAW

hmm.. it looks more like a firmwared dump for S5 IS and a CHDK for S5 IS is still in the works...

hopefully they can do it! then can try out the RAW as well as the super-duper shutter speeds if they can progam that in S5 + other interesting tweaks

1. Definitely a wise move to have the adapter + filter on the camera all the time. My thought:
a. Less worry on the lense being damaged by accidental knocking.
b. Allow you to hold the camera in a better way for stability.
c. Allow you to use standard lense cap, which will not fall off easily as the one came with the camera.
d. Many choices of filters could be used, including the close-up filter, polarizer, etc.
....

2. You could get a third party one for less than $20. Check out "Orion" @ Sim Lim.

3. Not too sure about the plastic one (Canon), but the metal one is quite light, personally I think the metal one could be more durable, and less chance for the threads to be damaged.

You can buy a 58mm or 52mm adapter. If you're planning to buy tele convertor or wideangle converter advisable to buy 58mm. You can buy the hoya uv filter for protection and a lenscap as well. Filter size will be based on the adapter size you bought.

Putting anything in between might mess up the image quality. Some of these converters best work at a certain distance from the lens. For instance, the Raynox 6600Pro has two versions, the 58mm & 52mm. 55mm version sits slightly closer to the main lens, and has a better IQ.

Why do you want to add a lens in the middle?
