Although i dun find the 3rd prize winner very fantastic...

Hey bro, dn't post this kind of comments lah.
You know what!? On the contrary, in a way I do think it was brilliant!!

While the rest of Spore was busy digging through dusty old photos, she was able to think out of the box, essentially Not using an old photo in her entry! And for that, I applaud her creativity and deserve points for that.

We must remember that a photo is ALWAYS about the 'idea' behind it, the concept of 'idea' will vary though. The most beautiful photo without 'soul' is just 'shiny sh*t', as a friend once told me..lol

The word 'Shiny ****' has always stuck in my brain.

Haha yes, photo in photo is not new, only variations and ways its used.
Can easily replace the photo within with an empty picture frame, a mirror, a drawn graphic, fingers forming a frame ala director... tonnes of possibilities.

i agree with you redmond... now a days. the content of the photo is almost always neglected, they're more concern on sharpness, bokeh, adding more effects, more PP should be blah blah blah and thats it. a photograph.. as you have said its just a shiny sh*t.

I reckon credit goes to organizers as well. In the end, its still up to the judges & what they looking for.

Just to share a small true story.

The NewPaper organizers called me to inform I was a finalist for the contest.
And guess what! They wanna interview me over the phone!
wait wait....hur not me?... You wanna speak to my wife who is in the photo?Oh ok...

*And They subsequently called TWICE and spoke to her about the story..NOT ONCE were they interested in what amazing aperture or beautiful lens I used, how I cleared the floor of fallen leaves, waited for lingering tourist to move away...etc. lol

So to answer your qn, for this panel of judges,they seem to understand the value of content, and so maybe still got chance for my simple looking photo...:bsmilie:

I strongly feel that these are photos that brings about warmth to the picture..
