Hi all,

Did my first ROM video shoot for a friend last Sunday.
Footage taken with Nikon D7000, and edited with iMovie.

Please give me some comments on the footage or editing.

Thank you.
Francis.

imo i think the transition a bit weird

a tripod is the best thing you can have. try to abstain from moving shots if u dont have stabilizers- stationary ones may look boring and uniteresting when you're shooting it, but trust me, e right editing will make your video look professional. zoom in close cos closeups= audience can see emotion. taking it from far takes away all the mood. frame it properly ie crop out all the distractions. alot to improve on, but hey, with lots of practice as they say...

Thanks for the tips Zac03, I think you are right, the right editing can make a different.

I will practice more and try to improve every bit slowly...

Thank you.

Hi S2Glow, can you explain a bit more on the feel of the transition? I hope I can get some feedback on that so that I can avoid such feel in future. Thank you.

Yes, it was shot handheld...

i feel the video is quite shaky in general.... feels very "homemade". i feel tripod/monopods are the bare minimum for video. of courses there's glidecams/sliders etc too

Yes, I agreed with you, I will remember to use at least a monopod in future. Tripod is quite difficult to use in such occasion as the place are pretty pack. I am still saving money for a glide cam and a mini jib. I will be doing some DIY for Slider.

Thanks for the comments.

Cheer,
Francis.

BTW, the video is really homemade, using iMovie only, and first time doing video shoot for ROM kind of event.

i kinda agree with the transitions being a bit awkward. it contradicts the feel of the entire video, somehow. your backing track's pretty much a slow and sentimental tune, but the transitions seem to be meant for a fast-paced video.

for myself, i rather create videos with minimal transition effects. what i normally do is just do clean cuts from scene to scene, but according to the music, as much as possible, as well as using the right mix of shots. you don't need fancy transitions to make good videos at all.

you can check out my channel and look at the glidecam video i did for reference. didn't use any transition effects for the entire thing, except for the intro fade-in and outro fade-out!

cheers.

Flycam or glidecam can do the job not mono pod. The video is nice. Just the staring part is abit too long n weird.
