Ha ha, cause from the D800 can be used the DX lens, from the DX lens also can used in FX mode or DX mode.
That why you get a bit confuse here.
The DX 40mm x1.5 also = 60mm length.
If you don't mind the detail a bit lose on DX lens result, that is worry free, to be keep the lens and used in FX D800 @ 36MP full frame format.

So far has been tried on 35mm DX & 40mm DX.
The results as well and little vignetting only for close up object.
If the zoom lens only allow for DX mode only, even close up still getting the heavy vignetting on whole edge of frame.

Thanks for the explanation. I understand better now.:)

My understanding is that 35mm DX is ok when used at closer distances and vignettes beyond 2-3m, opposite of what you've described.

Also, the 40mm DX micro appears to have no vignette as well. Can take 1 shot at say f/5.6 with a detailed subject, not macro, like a brickwall?

Thanks.

sure bo? ;)
The poison not toxic enough, I reckon...

interesting that the 40micro appears to vignette less when stopped down. Opposite effect to the 35DX, which does quite well (good frame coverage) when focused close and at large aperture setting.

Finally found some spare time to shoot around Marina Bay. Here is a view that most of you would have seen many times. Sorry here is another one :bsmilie:

Couldn't resist the temptation to peep in and see how much detail can be picked up in low light. From the 2nd & 3rd photos, I reckon it pretty good. Taken with the 50mm 1.4G. Unfortunately not a good lens for nice starburst.

Errr....... the 2nd and 3rd photos are 100% cropped.

He can't imaging that large format, after cropped still can see large image :)

100% crop means showing the pixels at 100% level. For example, open the image in photoshop and zoom in until the magnification readout says 100%. Then do a crop to any size, and post that.

You have shown a cropped photo, not a 100% crop. Perhaps you could zoom in on the eyes (or teeth, he he) to 100%, crop and post that. Only then we can see the power of 36 MP of D800.

Ok. Here goes, 100% crop of her right eye

And here is the original photo (posted previously)
