After consulting RFSG Chairman, Dan, who gave me a lot of good information on this developer, I got hold of some and set out to shoot a test roll with Trix400. The first photo was shot at EI 1250, while the rest were shot at EI 400.

The roll was developed in Diafine at room temp. Water pre wash, 4 mins in solution A, 2 gentle inversions every minute, again 4 mins in solution B, same agitation profile as solution A, water stop, fix as normal.

All photos scanned with V700 on standard film holders, no PP done.

Looks promising and I like the fact that I can shoot TriX at EI 400 - 1600 on a single roll !

Excellent results. I like the grain and the dark tones.

The second photo is great!

Greetings from Rome, Alex! And great work, Diafine is a terrific tool to have in your arsenal. I'm glad to see film development being kept well and alive

Thanks Dan! It was your diafine photos that got me interested in trying this developer out! And if you need some, please let me know.. I think I ordered enough to last me a lifetime!

Enjoy Rome, stay safe! Cheers! :)

Thanks bro. Yeah, it was the grain I saw from Dan's photos that got me interested in Diafine, besides the other advantages of being temp and time independent, as well as the long self life, etc. Let me know if you want some, cheers!

Derrick, no teaching required....diafine super simple, rate tri x@ 400-1600, shoot at any ei on any frame (that's the beauty of diafine), dip in solution a 3mins then solution b 3mins, wash fix and dry. Kaotim. Just follow instructions for rating different films. Easy as pie.

My first roll souped in Diafine is drying. Scanning in 1 hour!

Thanks for the chemicals Alex!

Wow, that was fast!!! :bsmilie:

Yep! And here is the first photo!

Plaubel Makina 67 with TriX @ ISO400

Pre-soak for 3 minutes with tap water at 28°C
Diafine Solution A for 4 min @ 28°C. 2 gentle Agitations
Quick rinse with tap water

Nice! According to instructions on the box, no need to use water between solutions A and B. Not sure of the effect this will have on the development with B, but hey it looks good to me!

I was worried that it would contaminate Solution B if I did not rinse. I don't think it made any difference, I just poured tap water in the tank and then threw it away without any agitation.

fyi. i use the following for diafine with good consistency and results:

5 mins pre-soak
5 mins in A, agitate about 3 times, each with 5 agitation
5 mins in B, agitate about 3 times, each with 5 agitation

What is different is I dilute my A and B solutions, 1+1. And I use it as single use, ie. i do not reuse.

the following iso are:

100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 and 3200.

i use tri-x around 800 - 1600.

Interesting formula! This is what makes self processing so fun and challenging! Thanks for sharing. :)
