My CF card or my camera ???

If you still insist that a 4GB CF card can shoot 418 pictures in RAW, then i suggest you bring it down to the service center for them to take a look.:bsmilie:

Or share the pixie-dust sprinkled on that CF card... Imagine what it could do to a 8GB or 16GBcard...

Well, for my A700,

It specifies that I'm able to fit in (at least) 307 cRAW files into my card in one shoot... though actually, the numbers usually come around 315 of those files - because the camera calculates the number of shots by factoring in the Maximum sizes of the files it expects to take - and usually the sizes ends up smaller - to the point that enough space's saved to make more room for a few more shots... Think the way people can squeeze 37 to 38 shots from a roll of 35mm film... :P

RAW files of A100/200/300/350 are of the uncompressed format, and are technically larger in size - even for the older A100, the number of RAW shots, that I can get is in the range of 270 - so A200/A300 shouldn't return numbers that are any higher.

I truly don't know what has made your camera shown 418 shot reserves, though it could have been a glitch of the firmware or maybe a setting error on the operator's part that could have some how returned with a lot more shots - which indeed can seem puzzling.

Though, with CF card prices in general plummeting, and esp. with the 8GB Sandisk Xtreme 3 CF cards costing thereabouts of $85+, you shouldn't frustrate yourself with this question for too long and move ahead - and the earlier you come to terms, the more peace you have.

yes.... i set it RAW ( not RAW + JPEG ) but its still 250.. 1 pic size is aroung 14mb... i dun know why... last time it was 10mb for 1 pic and i TOOK 418 pics......

Hi Hi ,

Seems like there was some quality settings that have changed since your shots file size changed from 10mb to 14mb. Since you know the drop in shots is due to file size differences , then you have the assurance that your card and camera is in good shape :)

Though now yourself and us dont know what has changed , but at least we know the reason of you not able to shoot 415 shots is due to bigger raw files . Not sure how comforting that is to you , but Alpha350 is a dman good camera, compared to other brands mid entry /entry level camera , you can do alot of things with it  =)

Good advice.

To the thread starter. Why not try this....
a. Format the card in your cam.
b. Change different settings ie Raw, then Raw+JPEG, then Fine then etc....
c. See how many photos you can take as reported by the cam.

From there most likely you will know which settings you are using. At the same time, check the photos where you manage to take 400+ raw files are they really raw files or just JPEG ?

I am positive with a 4GB CF card you can only shoot 250 RAW files.

Its stated in the manual quite clearly.

I tried in on my alpha too.

Now all the bro's here have given good advice. Some have even referred you to the exact page on the manual.

Hi...

A 4G card on A300 can possibly take 400+ shots. it depends on the subject you shoot, the lighting condition, the color, the saturation...

I am using sony a100, raw file size rangs from 6m to 10m, which is 60% - 100% of 10m. A300 is 14m camera, 60% of 14m is around 8.5m. thus it has the possibility to take 400+ shots.

the number you can shot with the card indicated in the camera is not accurate. it is an estimate.

For a300, the estimate is around 250. but if you go on shooting... if may take 400+.

Hello! I'm using a a200, even though it's not 14mp but i'm using kingston's and SanDisk highspeed cf cards. on 8Gb, i can shoot approx 510 shots. I believe you had it on RAW+JPEG?
