Hmm, first off there aren't any leading lines. There doesn't seem to be a focal point for the image. For black and white images, I feel that it's important for there to be strong lines that lead the viewer in. There's also quite a fair amount of dead space. I'm referring to both the black top and bottom white. Normally I'm ok with that, just that it should only be included if it serves a purpose.

i did thought of that.

but i got a feeling that if i crop with perspective, then, i'm sure to get comments like 'tight!',
'no room to breathe'.:bsmilie:

strong lines and such...i cant visualise.can u post me a reference pic?

appreciate the comments.:)

I'm not on my normal com now, I'll see if I can find any examples later :)

hummzzz here is my try.
trying just for fun haha

after seeing 4 variations,i still prefer my first 2.
i like the brighter number 2, but the cheeks on right is a bit burned out.

splutter, care to elaborate on composition please?

Personally, I do not like the 2 that u have done up. If my guess is correct, it may look nice on screen but the developed photo will sux. Sorry for the strong words. U may refute my suspicion though.

I like the 2nd pic more.

Hey, the girl in the pic looks very familiar... have I met u before? Are u the girl in the pic? PM me pls if you dont want to tell publicly :)

nice.i like it.can share how u pp it?

Edit: addon-
after seeing the pic you did again, i realised that the ps done was not what i planned to achieve.
cos i wanted a really low key/dark portrait.
but the ps you guys did was 'sort of' to make it brighter...?
it's nice but that would deviate from my original intention:dunno:

so...am i chio or not?:bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

hahah=a .. i suppose this would mean that u're her huh? ..

anyways i think the person in the pic is quite chio ... hahaha =)

keep thinking...keep guessing.;)

i dont intend to develop the pic lei.

strong words ok.i dare post for c&c, i can take strong words but of course, not offensive or anything that crosses the sexual harrasment border.
;)

dont you think by posting what you said, you could be flamed for being a bit lame?:bsmilie:

just shoot with a high speed film. no matter how you PS it, if you want a beautifully grained BW image you should try film first.
36 shots one roll of 35mm, it's easy peasy.

thanks.i know.

i love film grain too.
but i've decided to retire my f5.

+ it's so darn troublesome to drop film off for development than to dl and see on pc.

appreciate the effort.but
i dunno why i still like my own variation.look at the eyes of the two you've done.
and the second pic.look at the arm.that sort of took away all the grain and the left side of face is like 'patchy'
and the colored grain spoilt the pic.
the very 1st one you did has the 'best exposure' effect.i like my own version of grain, only thing is i find it too dark on the arm.

i'm posting mine again for comparison purpose.

ok, enough of variations.else, this thread will be very very confusing since so many variations of the same pic.

i appreciate the effort and time spent, but it will be good if you guys can email me instead.(if you want).
pm me if you wish.

so let's stick back to the C&C.

TQ:heart:

nay its ok, just psing the photo for fun.
to be honest i myself dun have a fixed formula as to how a b&w photo should be edited.
I take a more mix and match attitude to my post processing.
Its like clothes fashion, as long as the whole combi (e.g. theme, mood, grain, tone) goes together(very subjective), i'll be happy with the end result haha.

So i guess as long as you like what you see, tat is good enough =)
I sure dun hope to see a fixed single treatment done on every b&w photo i see.

Jeanie, IMO, the one you like makes the face look very blotchy, and not very appealing at all. Try it without grain, id like to see a nice smooth low key black and white version, bright white sheet, and the womens face and arms in shadow, perhaps it would emulate your intention better. Grain for grains sake doesn't always work, like here I believe.

sorry guys, the black and white conversion did not work, same for both Jeanie's and the others.

just did not have the impact.

no need to flog a dead horse.. just reshoot lar.
