Multigrade contrast filters

Need to get some contrast filters, and I noticed Ruby selling Ilford Multigrade Filters, for $79? Are they really that expensive? Coz i've seen ppl selling them at ebay for as low as US$3.. so I'm not really sure..

Anyways, i'll just take this opportunity to ask anyone if they're selling their contrast filters, just contact me at 92478340 if you're wishing to let them go.

I wouldn't use ebay as a gauge of the true price of the filters you are looking at, unless you are looking to get them used. If you are looking for a new set of contrast filters try looking at adorama.com calumet.com

I think $79 is a little expensive, but if you need them urgently then you don't really have much of a choice. I remember getting mine at a camera store in the US for US$25, not even S$50.

Did you see if Kodak had any?

noticed that Ruby has more or less monopolised B&W stuff.
ridiculous prices I'll say.
they are charging more and more for paper these days.
just late last yr in oct. ilford 12x16 RC multigrade only cost 16 dollar. last wk, I was told 26 dollar.

this is crazy.

Yeah honda, those on ebay were used ones..but the price difference is really big, most of them were selling for around US$10-15...

Anyways, can't do anything about that... someone has pm about a filter set.. however, a LENS filter set is not what i'm looking for, it's those square filters i'm trying to get.. unfortuntely my enlarger can only accomodate 3x3in ones...the ilford ones are 3.5x3.5in. Any suggestions for cutting if i actually decide to buy those?

It kinda sucks that Ruby is charging what they are charging. Really sad to see this happening.

Anyways, to address your problem, ever thought of figuring out a way to put the filters over the lens or place the filter behind the negative. From what I know the ilford contrast filters are made of hard plastic, so not very easy to cut. Depends on how much the guy is asking, I would maybe just get them, then find a way to rig the filters to your enlarger. Placement of the filter does not have to be very precise, as long as the filter covers your image area you should be good.

Another suggestion, is to go buy the Cokin Filter holder and use adaptor rings to fit it to the front of your enlarging lens.

Ilford has mounted contrast filters with a holder with a set up like cokin system.
but that is for colour printing with a mono head.
I really won't try placing e filters before e image. ya're degrading e source.
I might try to get from oversea. checking e price and shipping still.

anyone wants to share film in bulk anyway ?

I have read a artical saying that this filter will degrade through time,the photographer in the massage say that he have to add move filter to get the same contrast as a new set of the same filter.

That seems quite expensive. I remember when I was doing B&W about 5 yrs back, the Ilford filters were around $35 or 40 a set (I think...). Definitely not 70-80 bucks.

I suspect part of the rationale behind Ruby pricing is the increase in prices on the Ilford side as well; read somewhere that they had increased their prices.

I have a set of untrimmed Kodak gel filters ($25) and Ilford acetate below the lens filters (also $25). If anyone is interested, please PM me.
