MScolor service going down? Recall of my encounters...

Now we only heard 1 side of the story.

There are plenty of nasty customers around too. Those that you see you want to punch them in the face.

So we should take this thread with a pinch of salt too.

TS,

Are you very sure you were given only 2 cameras to choosee from??? Pls clarify.

I never thought they are the best shop in singapore. They seem like the typical camera shop you would expect in Singapore. Prices are not the best, unless you got a phone in advance.

Quite agree with the observation...a typical camera shop anywhere in Singapore, nothing outstanding in customer services - a typical Singaporean problem in this trade.

Two seperate incidents in 3 days...

On 26th, I went to buy a Sandisk Ultra CF card. I entered the store and saw this usual plump guy standing there, so I approached him. I asked for a CF card and he quoted me $55 for a 4GB CF and $95 for a 8GB one. Didn't know the price of a CF card(as they were all given for free during camera purchases-well my bad for not doing homework), I accepted the 4GB one. I did not doubt the price then since MS has always been trust worthy.

Then I noticed that he took out a normal CF (non-sandisk). I stopped him requested for Sandisk Ultra. He then commented that it will be a different price and there isn't a 4GB available for Ultra and he gave me a 8GB one at $75. I bought it.

Everything seems ok. But on 28th(below incident), I went to AMK HUB outlet, and noticed that the price printed on an identical Sandisk Ultra 8GB card is $65! So much for trusting them. Quoting $10 more? Didn't know they played the AP/CP kind of tactics. Now then I know I kena chop big time for the CF cards prices including what he verbally quoted me. Well. Also no one told me about the Free SanDisk casing. It is only while surfing the net for actual CF prices moments ago, I came to know about it. Now I need to find out how/where to get/redeem. How funny.

Seperately, On 28th, I went with my friend to buy a Canon S90 at the main MScolor branch. Again it's the plump guy that served us... Upon confirming purchase, I was given a brand new set of Canon S90 to test, I noticed a dead pixel on the LCD and showed him. He then hesitantly gave me the 2nd set to test.

This time round, I noticed a stuck dust spec on the lens front that cannot be removed(he tried removing with a cloth for a good 1-2 mins). At the end, he gave up and told us "Please go to AMK HUB to buy instead". I asked him why, he stood for a moment. I knew he was unhappy with me from all his gestures and mumbling with his colleagues. I then commented "No more stock ah?" Then he replied "ya". But one glance up, I saw at least 7 boxes of S90... WTH is this? Am i suppose to take a dead-pixel camera or take one with a stuck dust on the lens? Already pissed, I walked off the shop. I tried to call john3:16 to know if they are still open (it's already 7+pm) but nobody picked up. As my friend needed the camera urgently, we then went to the AMK HUB outlet.

Now this uncle that served us at AMK HUB just dumped the whole box there and ask us to check it ourselves, sarcastically. Definitely the guy at the S11 outlet gave him a ring about us coming. Who on earth sells camera like that?

Well, my friend bought the camera happily, but me, definitely not dropping by MScolor ever again. So much for patronizing them over the years... My cameras were all from them, dating back to the Powershot A40 days to the 50D. Really pissed!

just to let u knw that there is a max photo at b1 at amk hub, the sell the S90 cheaper as well... fyi only...

Yes bro, only two sets, i swear by heart.

1 with dead pixel, 2nd with stuck dust on lens front...

Everything is a true encounter... My purpose of this thread is not to bash them... Just my experience with them... All my previous purchases were with them and had always been happy except this one. Just very disappointed and pissed on the day when I returned home and posted this immediately. I did not miss anything...

i bought my first DSLR and lens from MS color this month.. service wouldnt say fantastic but not till the extent which you've mentioned.

Not to side anyone.. i feel that sometimes we need to ask ourselves what do we actually want? cheaper price or good service? Personally, i don't really believe they co-exist.. I'll normally get an e-quote, walk into the shop, test and make the purchase.

Just purchase my Tamron 17-50mm VC from them. Service was good, not like J3:16, talk talk talk until i sianz of waiting...

Call them 1st to check stock and price, florence advise to book as alot of request so after reserved, went down in the evening to purchase the lens. She still remember me after 1/2 day as I called her during lunchtime. The moment step in, she already served ice-water and brought me the lens, still ask me to check. So if you asked me, i'm confirmed a satisfied customer. The lens was sold to me cheaper by S$20 as compared to other shop i called and she even mentioned about the NTUC voucher that comes with it. In the end, i only filled in the info and they settle everything for me and advice me to call her if i din rec'd my voucher within 2 weeks.

Like what some of the CSers was saying, sometimes look for your regular salesperson.

Not 4 sets?
Well, it sounds like you have the other side of the story? If so, please state your side of the story rather than using this kind of one liner back and forth. TS already said he has tested obly 2 sets so there is no point asking the same question again and again.

I stay just opposite AMK central, so MSC (whichever branch) is my favourite hunt since it's near and I save on transport cost.

I know their prices are not the best, especially so on accessories like batteries and memory cards. However for lenses and cameras, I would say their prices are quite competitive.

I normally look for Karen or Florence if not their boss (since my good friend and his father knows the boss since 20-30yrs ago).

There are always black sheep in every businesses and I do admit there are a few faces I quite dislike at their AMK hub and main branch. That's why I normally look for those people I mentioned above. If AMK hub, I find the tall guy quite good in service and always give quite good discounts.

Dun bother about what price they print out. I always ask them "What's the best price?" If it's quite good, I would buy.

No need to go for lowest price or best service. What I want is the product at reasonable price. Do you ever think these shops provide loyalty discounts? Dream on.......

Never went there again after they sold me my 70-300 in July and despite my protests that there were markings on the inner barrel when extended (which they claim is perfectly normal) .. which I then found out, it isn't.
Not sore about it, lens functions well ... but still, their intentions were not noble. What to do, they have to get rid of that set what ... too bad I was a sucker then and believed them:confused:

Well, if ONLY they reply to their equote. I've sent in 3 request for equotes over a period of time. Never ever got a single reply back. How's that for customer service?

sharing my encounter. no comment is needed.

my kakis and i encountered lousy svs from them. so we never buy from them ever since. we were pissed off with no chap attitude - take it or leave it.

we reckon they have this mindset: "there are many many ppl flooding to my shop...you will know my price is good".

Not 4 sets?

If you have something, just say it.

Sounds like you work for MS color. If you are really a staff there, I would like to talk to you about how MSC can improve so you can feedback to the management.

Firstly, I do not work for MS Color.

Secondly, if you are great ideas on how to run a business, why dont you call Florence directly and advise her?????

I never got a chance to buy from MS Color. I heard that the service and prices were good. I wanted to buy a 5Dmk2 and I requested an e-quote 2 times and . . . no response.

If can't respond to their e-quote setup that they have developed on their website then what's the use?

I've been satisfied with SLR Revolution and their prices & service

i think most of us have our fair share of good/bad experiences with the shops etc.

for me, i'm ok with MSC.

but when i went to SLR-R, i got chap attitude...

Are you sure the salesman only let you check 2 sets of S90?

You do sound so sure about the no. of units TS has tested people would be thinking you might be the other party in that story. So why raise all these posts and questioning TS on the no. of units that he has tested if you were not there? It sure sounds like you were there and is saying TS is not telling the truth.

ok. I am taking this privately with the TS instead of posting in the open forum becuase there are disparities in the 2 accounts. This private arrangement should be better for clarification else too many kaypohs can make things worse.

The previous time I bought something there was deal directly with Florence (she's the boss right?)

Got cold drink and chit chat for a while. After that got discount on expensive filters too.

After that recommended a few friends there no problem.

Before that I also encountered with the fat uncle before. He was not friendly. I suspect is male version PMS so I forgive him lah.

Anyway what happen was I was looking for certain type of bags, which they dont have stock so I was trying to pre order one. Service was normal until I ask for the price, then his face changed as if I ask price means I cannot afford? Or maybe his frustration because he himself donno the price, since they dont have stock yet. Either way, not my fault as a customer.

Nothing wrong to ask price mah, if he want sell bags in a place where people won't ask price maybe he should apply for LV or something... but even still got people will ask price one.
