No, it's not a kit lens. In fact, I was looking for 28-105mm (not f3.5-4.5 though) & the fatty said no stock & recommended the one I bought instead. I asked why was it $70 more than 28-105 & he said 'maybe better coating?'
I do find that this lens is really good though, that is after cleaning a fingerprint on the lens of the inner side .

Ya, lesson learnt & one photo shop less to go...

y call him names?
seems to me that he doesnt know his stuff and u didnt do your homework.
btw, i never talk to him whenever i am at MS.

I had bought 4 or five items from MS color, found them quite okie. The person I liase so far was Florence. I used equotes from both ms and cathay photo. So far the two prices are comparable.

Should always check the product's local website or check out www.bhphotovideo.com for the USD price.

BTW any Nikon user can enlighten me why the prices on the website always 20-30% higher than what I got from MS color???

Nowsadays, i would always bring my galfren along when i go around to buy stuff... their more proficient in bargaining and it seems that they can "detect" salesman tactics... I'm speaking generally of course... ;p

Got this time went around to buy a battery pack for my eos 66... ended up saving 30 bucks. Would have bought from the first shop on impulse but my gal pulled me away... :bsmilie:

And since my gal don't really like me buying so much camera stuff, she will scrutinise wadever i gonna buy and try to dissuade me from buying unless i really need it..

I didn't, just stating facts and yes, I didn't do my homework on that particular lens & was reminded several times over in this thread.
Thank you for reminding me again.

As already highlighted by some of the CS'ers here, their equote is still relatively cheaper.

Talk to Mr. Loh.. very nice man and honest too. He offered to get me another piece of the lens I'm urgently looking for when I told him there's a slight defect in the front element.

the price offered by MS Color is better compared to TCW and CP (based on equote) but eventually I have to get from CP coz there's no more stock for the lens till Tues.
Price @ CP - still very reasonable after some bargaining :D

go back to mscolor and talk to mr loh and florence and let them know you were overcharged. of course bring your receipt along. i dont think mscolor will sell above canon list price.

Thanx for the advice.
Guess I'll do just that or that irk will never get out of my head...

agree :) But they, like all shops, like to quote amt in cash terms... :)
Like $2350 for the 16-35... good price :) everything in inclusive of credit 2%

I have the same experience in MS when I was looking for the 100-400. Verbally quoted be about $200 more than the e-quote they gave me a few days later. The person I spoke to kept saying that the price was the lowest possible he could go and would not budge. Never trusted them since the incident.

That's why the e-quote stated, print out the e-quote in-order to get that price.

no problems with them leh.........maybe cos i always do homework..........

Well, if u r gonna spend a few months of savings, what's a few emails to the various shops gonna cost u?

BTW i got 4 different equotes today and MS is the cheapest..........even comparing their price(with GST) vs the other quotes without GST.........

Hope a few irresponsible salesperson dun kill off the reputation of reputable shops like a certain shop in peninsular plaza........... :nono:

bring back the lens with your receipt and look for the 2 person recommended by fellow clubsnappers.
ask them whether the pricing is a mistake or not since the RRP given by canon is lower than what you pay for it.

ms color look like a decent shop, bought my A80 from them and my wife bro just bought a A95 from them. if it is a mistake, most probably they will refund. else just give them a piece of your mind and tell them straight that you will never walk into their shop again.

Thats exactly what I did, I would never walk into their shop (MSColor) for the rest of my life.

Yes, I would advice you to go back to MS Color and look for the boss and clarify on the price. I wouldn't think it's $360 for the 28-90. I have the impression it's the kit lens that comes with the EOS 30/33 cameras. Kit lenses are very basic (in terms of built and quality) and I have a gut feeling it's not going to cost you aywhere close to $300 even.

One personal advice though: I wouldn't trust or usually ask the technical aspects of cameras and lenses from any shop. Yes, even if he's a pro. (Unless he used to work for Canon as a technical staff maybe then!) Cos everyone has different experiences and preferences and may not know their stuffs completely. Those shop people are usually business/salesmen first.

I always prefer MS color to Alan Photo or Cathay. I think the sales person are warmer and they usually give a good price.

I think most buyers would call up these three shop to check at least, the price of the lens. Cathay is most consistent in their pricing. It may not be the best but the prices are more realistic and fair.

Alan Photo usually give a higher price unless you bargain down. From my experience MS color always give the best price of the three and I buy most of my lenses from them.

Maybe its a mistake, maybe its not. The price quoted on web could be in USD instead of S$. In addition to checking on the web, You contact Cathay Photo via phone or equote to verify the actual market price.

MS Color is ultimately a business entity. They have to look after their bottom line in order to survive. Rents have to be paid, CPF to be transferred to employees accounts and stock to be bought. IMHO, the consumers nowadays have to do their own research esp prices b4 commiting to substantial purchases. "overcharged" by how much???1k??or a rather insubstantial amt??I agree that we are always on the lookout for a "good buy". Nothing wrong with that but please do put yrself in the shoes of the shopowner for a moment. Then u will understand.

Just like to share my experience with MS abt 5 months ago...

I bought a Sigma tele lens from them without an e-quote as I kind of trust them from my past years of experience with them.

A couple of weeks later, I went there with a friend of mine who wanted to buy the same lens I got, and he brought along the e-quote from MS, and it was abt $80 LESS than what I paid for. My friend showed them the e-quote and they honoured the price stated... problem was they didn't have stock with the Nikon mount and my friend ended up not getting it on the spot...

However, the sales guy remembered the price he charged me and he offered to give me a rebate on my next item I buy from them... which I did of course, as I needed a compact flash card... The extra amount that I paid were fully rebated... and the best part was I didn't even ask for the rebate in the first place. ;)

My point is that it speaks volume about how they run their business... you all decide for yourself... :)

This reminded me of the 300D i bought..........the equote was 3 weeks old but i could not get it and had to book............(early stages of 300D craze......sellin like hotcakes)...........went back without the printout and they still honored the original price at 3% GST(when the quote was made), though it was already 5% GST............same as the battery grip which i bought a month later.............

Thing is to look for people you know.....................
