not too sure abt the caning part, but the cuffed part is true according to a fren of mine. his childhood fren did the unthinkable when he broke up with a girl.

of course the undertaker made the body hold a bouquet so as not make it obvious.

sad case......

One of Spore's urban legends... they also used to say that they cane the suicide corpses becoz its a crime.... I find it very hard to believe
Whipping the corpse? Well, I'd still advocate for community service for the family or sending them the bill if the urban legend really holds water.

if im not mistaken, when someone dies from suicide, his hands will be cuffed nonetheless.

i'm pretty sure it's all urban myth. firstly, if u were a cop, why would u do that??? secondly, caning is NOT a punishment for attempted suicide. http://statutes.agc.gov.sg/

Abetment of suicide of child or insane person.
305. If any person under 18 years of age, any insane person, any delirious person, any idiot, or any person in a state of intoxication, commits suicide, whoever abets the commission of such suicide shall be punished with death or imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years, and shall also be liable to fine.

I'm surprised they used the word idiot.. I guess politically correct words were not yet in style then. :D

are you sure..? (not that I don't believe you) but taht sounds so unhuman...:thumbsd: :embrass:

Unhuman? Is he human in the first place to even contemplate suicide? :)

they can't handcuff the body since it is not established at the scene that it is actually suicide. Q.E.D.

now, I may sound very cold and "uncaring", but hey, if you have to die, do you have to cause so much inconvenience to a whole trainful of people? why not be considerate and die quietly, hang yourself at home perhaps?

if I have suffer from depression is that an excuse for me to impose my problems on other people? so I am poor does that mean I should rob the guy more well off than I am?

this sort of reasoning is produced by a brain made of cotton. come on, give me a break. I am even more sad that we are turning into a country of softies. come on, where are your balls.

what non-human commits suicide?

Solution #1
If a guy throws himself on the track and dies, verified to be suicide. The family members of the fella would have to serve out x hours of community service. The number of hours is determined by the following factors:
- Total manpower time utilised
- Potential mapower to be utilised
- Commuter's lost time
- Train Delay timing

Solution #2
SMRT bill the family for the following expenses:
- Loss of potential and actual profit caused by train delay
- Loss of commuter's time (in terms of average pay per hour, per person)
- Cleaning bill
- Undertaker bill
- Cost incurred for extra manpower utilised
- Counselling bill for personnels who had been potentially traumatised by handling the body
- A $1000 fine from ENV for Environmental Pollution

Controversial and callous no doubt. But to let ppl know that their deaths ain't gonna end just like that but its going to implicate their family even after their deaths is going to make them think twice abt dying.
What happend if the suicider is alone? No family? Paid from Tax payer money?

Regards,
Arto.
