Hi guys,

I am new here, would like to know some advice and info.

I am eyeing the Sanyo Xacti HD2000, coz my budget is low, under 1k.
As we know that little devil is good in term of low light, Full HD, and consider cheap when we compare with others, but its shot on H264 mp4 and 60i, which is will end up as NTSC. But my out put is either DVD or web, so doesn't really matter.

My question is rather more about editing.
There are many review about this camera but no one really care or talk much about editing with device. many ppl end up having diffculty with mp4 not being able to edit it easily...
some may not.

Anybody care to share on that?

My reseach :

manage to find the Footages, 30sec( H.264, 1920 x 1080, Millions
AAC, Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz). file size 69.62 MB.

Converted using mpegstream to 16-bit Integer (Big Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
Apple Intermediate Codec, 1920 x 1080, Millions
(file size is about 1 gb ) and

Motion JPEG A, 1920 x 1080, Millions
16-bit Integer (Big Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
(file size is 3.6 Gb)

this is just 30 sec. .. lol..
and sure i can edit on FCP now, but imagine i have to convert all footages, time and data space.. lol

I tested on my gf macbook pro (13 " lowest spec ). with i movie, it handle flawlessly..
so may be i need a new computer too ,lol, can't afford..

i am using last gen of powerbook.my only trusted machine.

Thanks for reading this...
Hope someone got a better idea of editing this..
cant be that bad...right?

Just have to allocate more time for transcoding and editing. If you have FCP6, ProRes LT is the preferred codec for editing. But expect a fourfold increase in file size. Cineform Neoscene is also a small and good investment to transcode MP4 to Prores LT. Clipwrap 2 could wrap the mp4 almost instantly into Quicktime for immediate playback on FCP but any transition /effects will take a long time to render.

For a simpler solution...iMovie supports the h.264 codec. You dont really need FCP.

just copy to mac, drag and drop and after the files are converted can start editing. Simple to say if using a upgradeable mac.

for portable macs...if you intend to do serious work, they are a waste of $$$. Before you know it, the cpu is hopelessly obsoleted.
