Shot the following video using a webcam mounted on my ETX-90 telescope. This is my first step towards webcam astrophotography.

The telecope was not aligned nor set to track, so the moon simply glides across the field of view as the earth rotates. The vibration and jitter are partly due to instability of the tripod I mounted the telescope on, and to a lesser extend, partly due to atmospheric turbulence.

 but it magnification too much for me.

Yes, the sensor on the webcam is simply too small, resulting in very high magnification. Next step will be to set up telescope for tracking, and then target specific areas/features of the moon. The captured video can then broken into individual frames and stacked using registack or similar software.

That would have been a magnitude 20 earthquake! :)

Anyway, next time I will have to drag out my heavier tripod and set it up on the ground instead of on my deck.

Thanks!
