Des was your first shot posted in this thread cropped?
Another question for all.... as for the 1.5X crop factor... do we see less of the scene or is there a real magnification effect? I always thought it was the former... the picture is just cropped.... so it appears larger but if u scale the shot back to the original 35mm format, it will be the same size as using a full frame??? A bit confused.... would 500mm be an actual 750mm focal length or will the shot be cropped to appear like a proper 750mm shot? I.e. the extraneous borders are cropped out...
Yes, its 100% cropped. I've posted the original shot in the thread too.. here it is again

I thought so too.. cos Drudkh and UY79 seem to imply that there is a magnification... but I think what they were trying to say is that u get the perspective of a longer lens.... am I right guys?

My guess.. "perspective of a longer lens" because of the narrower angle of viewer after cropping. There is a long discussion in dpreview regarding this, and the effect to the DOF.. but I can't bother to read..
Anyone can explain the whole thing in 1 paragraph, and not more than 100 words? :bsmilie:
Hmm.... I think Drudkh is correct.... it appears "magnified" but if u compared a full frame shot of the same scene with one that has a 1.5x crop factor, u will find that some stuff get chopped out... but we usually dun get an opportunity to compare so there is an illusion of magnification which is not there actually...
here's a shot of the moon i just took with my tokina 100-300mm f4 with 2X tele converter. 1/20, f/22, ISO 100, auto WB.
did some post-processing suing Paintshop Pro 9.
1. clarify
2. unsharp mask
3. resized to 80% & crop.
I find Paintshop Pro is more easy for me to use, where as Photoshop is still quite complicated. Price wise, i'm not sure cos i'm using the trail version.
