Folks,

Did you notice recent sun rise is very beautiful.. strong orange color, usually around early 7+. Standby your camera.. :bsmilie:

Taken some time back with a Dimage 5, definitely not the best of images, but IMO rather good. Why not post your image and let us have a look.

And... Pro Consumer is still a very good camera, got me thousands of quality photos from all over the world.

Sure, who not? I've posted 2 of the moon images that I took with the A200 below. The images have only been cropped/resized (with no other pp).

Image taken using digital zoom (4x interpolate) - cropped & resized

Image taken using digital zoom only (2x) - cropped

What do you think? Is that the best that the built-in lens can do?

thanks,

Nope.. my 2x TC turns the round moon into oval moon.. :bsmilie:

Des was your first shot posted in this thread cropped?

Another question for all.... as for the 1.5X crop factor... do we see less of the scene or is there a real magnification effect? I always thought it was the former... the picture is just cropped.... so it appears larger but if u scale the shot back to the original 35mm format, it will be the same size as using a full frame??? A bit confused.... would 500mm be an actual 750mm focal length or will the shot be cropped to appear like a proper 750mm shot? I.e. the extraneous borders are cropped out...

I'm not guru in this.. AFAIK, there is not magnification effect.. all it does is chopping off the corners aka reduced size.. that's all.

I thought so too.. cos Drudkh and UY79 seem to imply that there is a magnification... but I think what they were trying to say is that u get the perspective of a longer lens.... am I right guys?

My guess.. "perspective of a longer lens" because of the narrower angle of viewer after cropping. There is a long discussion in dpreview regarding this, and the effect to the DOF.. but I can't bother to read..

Anyone can explain the whole thing in 1 paragraph, and not more than 100 words? :bsmilie:

okay, i try to give example.

assume this photo is taken @ fullframe, no crop factor. resolution is 600x400 pixels.
example16wq.jpg

then this photo is taken @ 1.5 crop factor, resolution is also 600x400 pixels.
example29gy.jpg

both are using the same lens, assume its the 28-75mm at 28mm.
so this is the perspective you get.

Hmm.... I think Drudkh is correct.... it appears "magnified" but if u compared a full frame shot of the same scene with one that has a 1.5x crop factor, u will find that some stuff get chopped out... but we usually dun get an opportunity to compare so there is an illusion of magnification which is not there actually...

here's a shot of the moon i just took with my tokina 100-300mm f4 with 2X tele converter. 1/20, f/22, ISO 100, auto WB.
did some post-processing suing Paintshop Pro 9.
1. clarify
2. unsharp mask
3. resized to 80% & crop.

Drudkh, why do you use Paint Shop Pro 9? Is it cheaper than Photoshop CS? What are the functional differences?

I find Paintshop Pro is more easy for me to use, where as Photoshop is still quite complicated. Price wise, i'm not sure cos i'm using the trail version. :)
