I know this has been posted numerous times, but I couldn't resist trying out a full moon shot with the 7D and KM 75-300mm (D).

Taken at 1/30s at f14, ISO 100, slight sharpening in PS, cropped at 100%

Tried using 2x tele-convertor with the lens but either 2s timer or 10s timer doesn't help. Output slightly blurred. A 2s timer with remote cable may help but I do not have it.

Can't resist shooting it also.. :bsmilie:

BTW, saw one really huge one in dpreview Canon forum.. think shot with a 2000mm.

Are your pictures cropped? I tried to take but it end up pretty small with my 100-300.

Spurssy said his is cropped 100%. Mine too, below is the actual resized frame. The moon just big enough to fill the spot circle. Did anyone shot it last night?

I also took it on Monday. ;p
using 100-300 + 2X

compared to Desmond's,

Hmm, desmond, how come your 100% is so big? My is already at 300mm (without teleconvertor) end and still looks small compared to yours. Did you use a convertor? The image looked very sharp, but a bit grainy, did you use a high ISO?

Drudkh, I tried the 2x convertor but 2 secs isn't enough for the camera to stabilise before the shutter opens. 10 secs is worse as the mirror cause a vibration.

I also noticed the facing of the moon is at a different angle (based on the big crater) between my shot and the rest. Mine is taken at 9++ pm, I believed the rest of the shots might be taken after the moon has passed the overhead mark.

1/125s, using 2sec timer?

I tried f11, but at 1/125, somehow seems lack of light, may have to push up ISO.

I'm shooting at 500mm, no converter. ISO200, can't remember which picture I used here, should be F8-F11, 1/125 - 1/200 sec. The sharpening is using free MS Photo Editor, may that why it look grainy..

Hi Des,

Really nice moon shot you got there. Tried with an A200, no telecon. Image is too small at 200mm; with 4x digital zoom, loses a lot of detail. Sigh - I guess that's where the DSLRs come in handy. Maybe I should start looking for a tcon.

I spotted a very nice red half moon ytd morning about 3.50+ am, was out then. those interested may want to consider shooting it... =)

and you have to consider that A2 has no crop factor whereas 7D has 1.5X crop factor. so if he has a 300mm lens, it would have an illusioned 450mm effect.

Folks,

Did you notice recent sun rise is very beautiful.. strong orange color, usually around early 7+. Standby your camera.. :bsmilie:

I think Desmond took it with the 50-500, so that would make it effectively 750mm. Right?

Cheers!

Taken some time back with a Dimage 5, definitely not the best of images, but IMO rather good. Why not post your image and let us have a look.

And... Pro Consumer is still a very good camera, got me thousands of quality photos from all over the world.
