Hi,

it's true that some SLS shops are also carrying the X's-Drive II, other than Sysnet, Interactive Media on the 5th floor is also carrying the product. I think they only have 1 unit each.

However we are informed by Vosonic, the manufacturer of X's-Drive II that we, EastGear.com are the only authorised distributor of the X's-Drive II in Singapore.

Hence the units that they are selling are parallel imports. While the shops provide the usual 7 days return policy, they have no plans to bring in the accessories like the car charger and battery packs. Since they do not carry any accessories or spare parts needed for servicing, any warranty claims will probably be referred to the manufacturer in Taiwan. (Can you imagine approaching the SLS shop 10 months after you bought your unit to ask it to be serviced?)

The package sold in SLS is also different from our package in these aspects:
1) There is no car charger
2) The carrying case is not original and does carry the X's-Drive II logo.
3) The AC adaptor is of poorer built quality and does not come with any earthing properties.

As the official distributor of the X's-Drive II in Singapore, we offer:
1) the complete X's-Drive II package with full accessories (which include the X's-Drive II unit, original carrying case with X's-Drive II logo, lightweight universal AC adaptor, car charger, usb cable, drivers CD-Rom & manuals) for S$199
2) 1 year local warranty with 14 days "1 for 1" exchange
3) Local servicing and support
4) Access to accessories and spare parts
5) Free installation of your harddisk

Thanks and regards,

Hi All Again...

Just came back from SLS - and bought myself the X's-Drive II for S$199! No extra batt, no car charger...but hey...it's S$199!

Got it from Sysnet...think I saw one more piece there..not sure if they have more...

and for those of you who may still be thinking of getting the extra batt....I've opened up the casing and not to worry. Changing the battery is a relatively simple affair that does not require you to break the warranty seal.

Besides, Li-ion batts can easily store for a few years as long as you maintain it properly over time. I've obtained some info if anyone is interested in maintenance and care for Li-ion batts.

Cheers!

The built-in internal battery pack lies beneath the harddisk. Hence you have to open up the unit and remove the harddisk from the case in order to access the battery pack. This involves removing 6 screws in total. 2 screws which secures the outer casing and 4 screws which secures the harddisk. This is definitely not something you wanna do everytime your unit runs out of juice. It would make more sense to use an external battery pack running on AA batteries to prolong the battery life of the unit. We are currently building this battery pack for customers who buy the X's-Drive II from us.

All batteries have a certain shelf life, regardless whether you use them or not. By the time your first battery dies out, the lifespan of the second will be significantly be reduced. Hence it is not advisable to buy an additional battery pack when it is not needed.
