You have to make sure that it is a 2.5" notebook harddisk of 9.5mm thickness (older notebook harddisks are 12mm thick). The new IBM/Hitachi notebook harddisks are fine.

Hey, sell you mine since it didn't work for me, :devil:

Just joking. I bought mine from Storage Studio in SLS for $35. It work quite well for file size around 700MB or below. When I tried with over 1GB file I get into I/O error as mentioned above. Not sure I should recommend you the card or not. I myself thinking of changing to better brand like Adaptec or Belkin. :dunno:

Following the correction, sustained harddrive transfer speed will easily be less than 480Mbps and a faster harddrive does help (at least for the transfer from Xbox to the PC). But as usual, the slowest component in the chain will determine the overall transfer speed.

Yup, misread the part about the B and b ;p Anyway, that's just the theoretical interface transfer speed for one of the standards (ATA-100?).

I believe your calculation is right! 480Mbps should translate to slightly under 60MBps. Now I know why I dropped Math for my A's!

Well - Makes me feel better to know that my 5400rpm isn't so darn useless even with USB2.0 afterall!

But can you please explain why a faster drive will help increase the sustained transfer speed? and 100MBps is UDMA

Here's the steps to format the HDD:

1) Install the driver without plugging in the device
2) Restart the computer
3) Plug in device (it should be recognised as a removable disk)
4) Right click on icon and select format

Actually, USB2.0 is more common (found in most new motherboards) and faster than firewire. USB 2.0 transfer speed is 480kbps while firewire is 400kbps.

It means that the X-Drive II does not have a slot for XD card, it requires a CF adaptor in order to connect to the X-Drive II. The adaptor shouldn't be too expensive, around $10 or less.

For those who got the XD II earlier today ? HOw's the xfer speed using USB 2 ? Any recommendation of good USB 2 card ? I jus xfer mine and it took quite a while,didn't time it. But i am quite happy with the size of the XD II and the simple usage.

Yeah I am quite happy with it!! The only doubt I have is that the manual says that you have to charge the battery first time for 8 hours...But after an hour or so, the battery got charged, and a few minutes later, the light turned off and charging just seemed to stop. Hope that is normal and the battery life isnt threatened! Anyway tried transferring files and it seems to work perfectly!

The X-Drive II uses lithium ion batteries. Hence there is no need for any overcharging or long initial charging. There is an intelligent charger built into the X-Drive II which will stop charging once the battery is fully charged.
