I don't want to cause banal talk in this thread, but I also need some info.

Is there a thread that lists the addresses and phone numbers of camera shops in Hong Kong? I would be there in June.

I believe you can find some of the shops if you do a search in Yahoo.hk.com or Google.hk.com. You can also try to search in the Consumers Corner forum.

Thanks for the feedback, HS. My understanding is that they will include the International Warranty card in their grey sets. The reason that grey sets are cheaper is because they are parallel imported and the markup is lower compared to those brought in by the local agent. Hence, they do not come with local warranty card, but do include the International Warranty card.

Also, I understand that except for camera bodies, it is possible to register equipment purchased overseas at Nikon SG for warranty.

Anyone have any different experience?
Are you talking about Wing /Man Shing? I bought a Nikon lens from them just a week ago, and it has a yellow warranty card with Nikon Shriro HK written on it, so it is not grey.....

The grey items I bought didn't have the warranty card (the shop just removes the card, if it came from Shriro HK, or there in no card inside to begin with if it is imported by themselves.....Tin Cheung does this, sometimes there is japanese warranty, but still need to bring back to them)....

HS

I did ask Wing Shing if they can sell me without warranty, but they declined.....

HS

BTW: Wing Shing is the old man behind the cashing machine......

Oh! I saw him the last time I visited the shop. Didn't know he's the boss. I only talked to his sales guy, couldn't remember his name since it was quite some time back.

Who's the most friendly of the lot? And can also bargain ;) ?

I have a weak for ladies only.......

Not sure if one can bargain although I tried off course (I mean, this is Asia).......they politely declined.....prices are fixed, which makes shopping easier. All items are officially imported I think.....the one time I bought from them, was because I couldn't get the lens anywhere else...and I didn't need the warranty for a lens......but anyway, I got it....

BTW: I was only joking about the 'old man' behind the cashier, you really saw one?

HS

the 70-200 VR looks tempting....its really much cheaper than Sg.....

Are you a lady-killer ;) ? I remember I saw an old man somewhere near the cashier. But maybe that was in Man Shing. Couldn't quite recall which shop.
About the lens you bought from Wing Shing, you mean it was without warranty (grey set)?

The 80-200 2.8D is much cheaper in HK compared to SG. In fact, I would say almost all the lenses are cheaper in HK. I'm also interested to get this lens and the filter.

Attention: I will be getting quotations from the shops there on 25th Apr 05. Those who are interested should PM me your orders by then so that I can submit for quotations. Then you guys can make the final decision whether to go ahead.

Just wondering, is there any chance that WS/MS still sells the Nikon PB-4 bellows (used/new)?

Can't really seem to see this around in Singapore.

i dun think so... did emailed them once. They replied sayin as long as its not digital equipment and lenses for digital cam, nikon sg accepts int'l warranty. All digital equpt has to have local warranty.

hope this helps...

No, I said Wing Shing/Man Shing do NOT sell grey items, they only sell official ones from Nikon Shriro HK, with International warranty (and official Shriro HK warranty for all digital products)......

other shops do sell grey, with or without Int. warranty (it depends if you know them well enough, but most of the time: NO warranty, or shops warranty, or with Japan warranty but I am not sure if they honour it if you send it to Japan, Tin Cheung gives shops warranty for their items with Japan warranty)......

HS

I don't know from which shop you buy, but you better check VERY carefully as they may say: yes it comes with warranty, but they mean shops warranty.....if you buy ffrom Wing/Man Shing it is ok, you will get International warranty....
