MO: Better Beamer flash extender

Hi,
I am going to order this accessory for my 420 EX that increases the flash output by around 2 to 2.5 stops while using a long tele... Its a boon for wildlife photographers and is very convenient to use too... I remember someone from Clubsnap using it during the Canon sponsored zoo shoot. The thing costs USD 36 (~63 SGD) + 9 USD for shipping. If anyone wants to tag along to save on shipping costs, he/she is welcome. I am going to order it anyway cuz shipping isnt expensive but in any case thought will ask around if anyone else is interested too...

FYI, this accessory is available in Foto guide in peninsula. But they stock stock it for 420 EX - only for 550 EX. So, those who own 550 EX might want to buy it there instead.

Why not you just buy the 550EX one and retrofit to your 420? The flash heads are not very different in size and this beamer thing is only a fresnel screen with a custom made bracket, how many stops more for the range depends on the distance the screen is from the head.

As for me I just use a fresnel screen and built a bracket myself. Troublesome and aint much cheaper but oh heck....for the fun of it.....

What is involed in this bracket thingy? Actually I too was wondering what the difference between flashes would be.. but am not really sure and did not want to take a chance... Now that you say you have done it, might think about it. Thanks a lot.

like i said, it's just a fresnel screen and bracket. no fancy electronics.... just simple mechnical stuff....

that's why i said get the 550ex one and retrofit. maybe slightly different stops but it will still work. if you need longer range just move it further but there's a limit.... getting a 2 stop increase is damn good already, i cant get it out to 2.5 stops nicely.
