The SUN is the single best light-source which is available nearly 12 hours of every day. It is free, weighs nothing, is easy to set-up and better yet provides the most magic of lighting for your subjects be they the smallest of children or the vastest of landscapes.

The problem is, however, that the sun doesn’t always do as it’s told. That’s where the reflector comes in. the reflector can tame the sun and get it to shine where and how you want it. The purpose of the reflector is just as its name suggests, to reflect light into areas of shadow for which you want greater illumination. It can also block light as needed.

Example.jpg

As you can see in the first photograph, the right side of the model’s face is shadowed. By setting a reflector on that side, we can easily “bounce” the light back into the shaded areas and create a more pleasing light.

Unlike working with a lighting system, reflectors are very simple, and thus often overlooked. You can immediately see the effect they are going to have on your subject. Placing the reflector is a matter of choice and style more than set rules. As you move it closer to your subject, you will get more reflected light, further away – less. The various surfaces of the 5’n1 allow you to further customize the experience, giving you much greater control over your final photograph.

but the thing is that when you go to take some pic alone do you need to bring along the reflector?
