as for those extremely paranoid residents, the problem lies with oneself.... :bsmilie:

the solution? counselling sessions... :bsmilie:

Yeah but as one resident said... doesn't matter if it is factory or service staff... it is still FOREIGN WORKERS and security is an issue. End of the day sadly to many Singaporeans FOREIGN WORKERS EQUATES TO RAPISTS, MOLESTERS, CRIMINALS..... sigh... reminds me of how some RACIST WHITES in some countries regard all ASIANS, SINGAPOREANS included as DRUG DEALERS, DRUG PUSHERS, DRUG ADDICTS....

Ironic, isn't it. Now we're the people we complain about when in the West.

one resident said raise both hands then 2 legs to object :bsmilie:

rich ppl sure have their way of getting thing done..

Hah I see our resident troll has decided to emerge from it's hole in the ground.

The Almighty One does not live underground. :bsmilie:

I know for a fact that MOST Singaporeans will never want to buy a home that is near where foreign workers stay, not because they do not like foreigners, but because they know that the value of their home will depreciate because every Singaporean is thinking the same way. It applies to private estates and HDB estates alike.

For these home owners in Serangoon, this is the crux of their complaints, everything else is a complaint (fair or not) they brought up to justify this fear. It all boils down to money.

This is why I say that there are many hypocrites on this thread, if it does not affect your money, you will never need to know what these people feel. But if it affects you, you will naturally react like these people in the papers.

BTW, I live among foreign workers, the blue collared ones. These people have never cause me problems with the exception of getting drunk and causing a ruckus in the early hours of the morning when walking back to where they stay. My neighbours actually cause more inconvenience, like allowing their dogs to **** all over the pavements or parking their cars in an inconsidrate manner.

the ground at Serangoon Gardens? :bsmilie:

it's a premium estate to live in, of course there will be an uprising.

honestly, why dont the MND build a dorm beside Oxley Road? it's right at the heart of Singapore, and could reach any part of Singapore within 20mins!

 funny where did I heard this before ? :bsmilie:

Be thankful that the Singapore Government still have some morality and integrity not to store the foreign workers like this. Sadly some of them are still treated like this, especially illegal immigrants in small hell holes such as a tiny dorms somewhere(was reported in newspaper somewhere)

Anyway, for my own view, providing the buffer space is alright for me since the sight of the workers all littering and talking louding(and perhaps the smell of sweat?) is rather unsightly, whic is the case of whats going on at one area in Bedok Resevoir.Yes, they do leave all the rubbish behind too, all the time.

I rather they just scrap the idea and build the dorm in some area where there are no housing esp private housing.

Reasons?

Presently the way the dorm is run.. seperate road from the rest of the estate, self containing facilities, security barriers and all as the news said to "keep the workers in".
I mean please.... they might be foreign but they sure are not criminals. The way the dorm is run, it is more like a prison.

And the present residents are even more angry and resentful now that the decision is passed despite their protests and they are going to show their anger and resentment towards these workers whether or not these workers really commit any offenses.

I think since Singaporeans really cannot accept foreign workers then let's not force it down their throat and spare foreign workers the shame of being labeled criminals when they just want to work and earn money for their families back home.
Ironically, the beautiful Semi-Ds, our HDB flats are built by those foreign workers with their hands, sweat and blood.

I'm observing kinda 2 polar opposites here in CS and another in HWZ.... :bsmilie: Funny how some things are in cyberspace.

I smell opportunity for cheep landed property at Serangoon Gardens....

Walking around the neighborhood late in the evening in a long white gown and a long messy wig would scare them off.

will see more roti prata, mee goreng, curry in chomp chomp... :bsmilie:

oh my...i fear for those rich daughters going back home late after clubbing or drinking...

Oh please. They're foreign workers here to earn a living, not criminals.
