Minolta's Honeycomb metering

I am wondering what are the difference between honeycomb, matirx (Nikon) and canon's.

I am using spot metering and so far the result are satisfactory. However I would like to know how well the honeycomb is when let say... mix lighting. 20-40% sky (both day and night)

How about the center-weight metering?

Recently my picture are not as expected hence I would like to know more about metering so I could get the best possible exposure.

Honeycomb ~= Matrix ~= Evaluative metering. Just different names.

Nikon 3D Matrix Metering
3D Matrix Meter evaluates a complex array of conditions including scene brightness, contrast, and the selected focus area and distance information. The camera's microcomputer then analyzes this data to deliver astonishingly accurate automatic exposure control.


Minolta 14-Segment Honeycomb-Pattern Metering
The camera silicon photocell is divided into 14 segments — thirteen in a honeycomb array, plus the background. The metering system uses autofocus information to determine the subject’s location, and constructs an appropriate metering pattern around it. The uniform size, shape, and distribution of each segment results in precise control of the metering pattern and therefore, the exposure. Slight subject movement results in slight adjustments to the weighting of segments within the pattern. If subject movement become great enough to affect the exposure, the metering pattern shifts smoothly to compensate. As a result, the camera is able to set the correct exposure even in very tricky lighting.


Center-Weighted Metering
Nearly 75% of the meter's sensitivity is concentrated at the center of the viewfinder, with the rest feathered out to the edges for a balanced-looking exposure.

Spot Metering
For pinpoint precision, Spot Metering reads a 4mm-diameter area (approx. 1% of the image area). The sensing area also adjusts to correspond to the manually selected focus area for optimum individual control.

I have a questions for all Minolta user.

Comparitive, which metering do you used and why?

How much can you trust the honeycomb metering to do it stuff for correct exposure. I am currently using spot metering and was using c/w when i am using FM2n.

Please tell me why and how would the honeycomb ease my life if any. :dunno:

it depand on situation, I usually use honeycomb metering if the backgroud and foregound is not tricky(lighting). if I am going to shoot a bird with multi-color(white,blue,yellow,black), I will use spot metering.
