Minolta lens for Sony alpha?

here's how i find these few lenses work out for me.

28-135mm f3.5 to 4.5 (hope i got it right as i only try it out, dont own it). It's AF is fast, for a olden days lens, it's v fast AF for me. good zoom and sharp pics.

28-85mm, it's just a better version of a kit lens to me, AF still ok, price is cheapest here.

28-75mm f2.8 G. AF is v v slow... so slow, i can still focus in the dark and hit spot on. Pic sharpest is v good at f4 above if u are those crazy zombies that zoom in 100% to view the pic. V good flare control with a useless hood which came with it.

28-75mm f2.8 D. A lighter version which was used as a kit lens when the 7D minolta first came out. AF is good, a bit soft at 2.8, $700 when new, almost 1/3 price of G version. good flash control with D metering with direct flash.

24-105mm f3.5-4.5 D. The kit lens for dynax 7 days. Light weight lens which gives a good zoom rangeto use for street. Sharpness so so, good D metering for direct flash control.

The lastest sony version 28-75mm f2.8, i did not try it out.

CZ 24-70mm f2.8 is sharp with silent AF.

I have the min 28-135 and sony 28-75.

I find the 28-135 focuses faster. Major downside to this lens is the minimum focus distance. It can be very irritating at times. Sharpness and colors are as good as it gets for a lens of this age. The other consideration will be weight.

The 28-75 is light and is as sharp from f4 onwards. I find it has slightly slower AF. Its minimum focus distance is alot better than the 28-135.

Cheers!

I'm new to dslr photography but I've noticed that there is a lot of talk in the forums of using Minolta lens for the Sony alpha SLTs.
Wondering if any of the forumers are doing so, which ones you use and how the image quality is compared to current alpha mount lenses? Can the Minolta lenses "keep up" with a 24MP sensor?
Thanks in advance.

Some Sony Alpha lenses are actually replicas of Minolta lenses, with just a change in appearances (due to Sony buying over Minolta's camera division and thus rebranded the lenses).

The 100mm macro and 500mm reflex lenses are 2 examples.

I love the 28-135 f4-4.5 and the 70-210 f4.

However, because I shoot children minimum focus distant is actually very important to me.

I uses CZ 24-70 f2.8 and 70-210 F4 beercan. These works really well for me.

Having using Leica M system, somehow, the older 70-210 f4 and 28-135 f4-4.5 have a very similar look to Leica lenses in terms of image rendering. They are sharp but not critically sharp while have a round off edges... Like well polish stone...

Perhaps I love the classic lower contrast rendering but I couldn't be happier with these two oldies.

I have 2 beercan and they are both as sharp on my A900.

I do have the 70-200 f2.8 Ssm but use them from time to time should I need the "speed".

Another few great little lenses are 100 f2, 135mm f2.8... If u have those, keep it.

hahaha... come and sell them to me...

I don't see anything wrong with Sony... I know.. they should have more camera coming out especially on the higher end division.

Then let's hops for some good news later this year. :)

In just a few more months..
fingers crossed

just used the beercan for a company assignment :bsmilie:

the OOF areas are so sweet and creamy that i couldn't stop staring at them :bsmilie:

so *hint* get the 70210

how is the AF of beercan + LA-EA2 ?
would the aperture remain at f4 ? I dun quite understand how LA-EA2 work, any my guess is that we would lose something if not aperture.

Yes, the aperture would still be F4. The LA-EA2 is an adpter with a translucent mirror inside for phase contrast detection AF. There is also aperture control and a drive screw for screw-driven lenses. You can use the lenses as per normal, just like on Alpha.
