Own a Dynax 500si. A fault developed recently. The view finder became dark and the camera was unable to focus. :(

Changed lenses, no different. Batteries okay.

Jessops have give estimate for repair, £85. Providing they find no more defects whilst repairing!! :o

Can anybody please help/advise. Cheaper repair or self fix.

Realise camera is oldish but it has sentimental value and it still took great photo's prior to defect.

Thanks

that is the failure of the aperture control unit...remove your lens and you will see that the ring that push your lens aperture is in the down position...repair cost will be about S$100-S$150...friends repair in singapore before...

In that case might be better value to buy a used 500si or even a Dynax 5... may cost 3 times more but u get an upgrade and a more reliable body as the unit is newer...

TME,

Trev said it has sentimental value.. so no-no for just replacement.. :nono:

:bsmilie:

Oop!!! Sorry Trev, didn't see that line.... :embrass:

Thanks for your info gents. Was hoping for quick easy fix but........

Looks like a new body required. Dont know much about camera's so will just look for same model, second hand as have lenses, bag, instructions etc.

Hi Trev,

Just a suggestion, you may consider a Dynax 5 instead, very much like 500/505 but just much better. The 2nd hand price is very attractive too!

Cheers!

Yupe!!!I second Des' suggestion... The Dynax 5 is a lot of camera for very little money... IMO.... almost flawless exposure metering and very fast focussing and lots of other goodies u won't expect...
