Hi all,

I bought the Dimage Z2 and is very excited about it. The difference between Z1 and Z2 is that the latter is 4 mega pixels instead of 3.2. Z2 also records movie with sound but Z1 doesn't. Z2 got better lens and can add an wider lens if you want. Z2 also can add additional flash.

I tried both at the IT fair and I found that Z1 gets a bit blur when I zoomed to the max of 10X whereas Z2 remains to be very clear.

They give 2 Sd cards of 128MB, and SD card reader, a tripod and GP batteries and charger. So, it's quite a good deal I think!

Will be using it this weekends and let you guys know the results! Anyone who bought the same camera can share experience?? :bsmilie:

Hi.
I got the same deal as you. 2x128mb SDs

The focus is real fast and the zoom real shiok.

Took 2 test shots for the zoom today.

No Zoom
Full 10x Optical Zoom

Now still learning how to take shots with boquet effect.... ;)

Have fun with your cam....

Z1 also records sounds, can add lens and can add flash. The issue is the lens, the 'purple fringing'. As for the deal, its very very good, but I think the tripod is a bit cheapo($16.90 type), and IO-data SD cards may not handle the fast writing speed necessary for 30fps 640X480 or 15fps, 800X600 movie modes, cos I observe the sale guy use a toshiba SD card when testing.....

Hi,

But I really think Z1 do not record sound. I checked before at a store and was disappointed. I also checked at the IT show and they also said Z1 no sound, Z2 have sound. That's the main reason why I spend another $100 for Z2.

Agree that tripod is a bit cheapo. Not sure of the SD card speed yet, must try then know. But usually free things not so good lor.....so expected. :o

pai seh ... think I spell wrongly. I think what I was trying to say is playing with the depth of field.

Something like this. (something I tried with my cam today) ... main subject sharp, background blur.

pardon my poor compositions.... :bsmilie:

cheers... :)

I think the word "bokeh" was meant.... it's a Jap term for the visual quality of the highlights in the blurred background of a shot with shallow depth of field produced by a combination of the lens' glass and its aperture blades.

I have the Z1. It does record sound. I made a couple of movies with it, so I am damn sure of it. The Z1 also accepts the wide angle convertor, including 3rd party ones (original about $180, 3rd party about $100). For those deciding Z1 or Z2, do consider what features do you really need from the wonderful cameras. As for the unusual design, it is actually ergonomical, making handholding more comfy ;)

Hello bro,

I just bought the Z2 couple of days ago. A superb cam especially with the zoom and it seems to have a built in star filter for night shoot. Only dun like the self timer function as it does not have a 2 sec setting.

Tested with the night shots but the color is not that accurate. Just wondering you got any idea on how to set the white balance correctly. I took the Esplanade with Auto white balance and it looked like a orange durian. :bsmilie: If I use Tungsten, it looks abit too white. I know there is a preset but not sure how to use it properly. Any idea?
