24-85 is a discontinued model. i dunno if u still can get it. But the RS is still available.
It is very little better in performance compare to 24-105. Both also f.3.4-4.5. Lens.

wat camera are you using? if u are using Dynax 5 or 7, I suggest you get the 24-105 D. coz it is a later and ADI lens. Would you also want the extra 20mm ?

hope this help.

Ninelives,

What does RS stands for?

I realise you have the Tokina lens. How does yours compared to the Minolta 24-85mm or Minolta 24-105mm ? I know it is faster, but how about optical performance? Is it sharp when fully open?

Thanks in advance

hi shocker, do u mind if i answer u tomorrow? it is 2am now, i got to wake up at 8am tomorrow.....

:)

:)

i have the same lens as ninelives, so let me share what i think of it...

sharp wide open? can't really tell the difference in sharpness between shots taken at f/2.8 and f/8.

it's very contrasty though, but a bit prone to flaring

any 2nd hand of this lens around in the market for Minolta mount?

haven't seen any around. but check with *dew* 'cos he's selling his ATX-PRO (not PRO II).

Hi shocker(edited :D) ,

RS stand for Restyled.

the Tokina ProII is sharp and fast, even in low light. It is heavier compare to the Minolta 24-85/105. The diameter of the lens is 77mm while the Minolta is 62 mm.

BUt there is distortion at certain range.

forcusing at 80mm also very fast, remember it is a 2.8 lens. The Minolta is 4.5 when at 85mm/105mm.

I advice you get the Tokina , unless you need ADI.

Checked with him already. He sold it.
PS: you know him.

everyone here shares a common interest (photography) and a common love (Minolta)...

... so everyone knows each other!!!

I can't remember at which end (wide or tele, but not both), but it's only very, very slight

How about the Sigma EX 28-70mm f/2.8 ? Any good ? Or Tokina still better?

Some of our members love this lens. However, I never use it before or see the result(via slide). Putting it on net does really tell the quality of a lens. Perhaps you can ask bluestrike(i think he own this lens) to show you his slide? btw, he don't have a good loupe :D

Have the 24-105mm lens....quite a sharp lens compared to the 28-80mm lens that came with my camera. One problem with the lens is the vignetting at the four corners when used at wide angle.
