On 19 May 2013, George, a newcomer to astronomy but not to photography, took photos of the clear night sky at Marina Barrage.
After stacking the photos and post-processing it, to his amazement, the Milky Way was captured among the stars. He posted it to the Singapore Astronomy Forums (SingAstro) and got confirmation that it was indeed the Milky Way galaxy.
With his kind permission, I did some additional basic post processing of it in photoshop. This is the result:
Such an amazing shot is incredibly difficult to achieve in Singapore due to massive light-pollution and general absence of very clear skies. Even when such a night occurs, this thicker part of the galaxy may not have risen or in too low a position for a good shot at it. The slightest haze may also render it invisible even to cameras.
George did not see the galaxy with his own eyes on that night. It was only "visible" via long exposure photography + stacking of images + post-processing. But nonetheless it was there.
