You may consider Rode VideoMic or Sennheiser MKE 400. They come with 3.5mm mini jack. Both are compact for your camera but they capture sound in omni-direction. I think Hang Bro at Sim Lim has Rode mic and Expandore has MKE 400. If you want uni-directional shotgun mic, you may consider Rode NTG 2 or Audio Technica 897 (but both need XLR to mini-jack adaptor). If not, consider cheaper Adzen SGM-X which has mini-jack output. You should be able to purchase them directly in Singapore.

I think the price of MKE 400 was close to SIN$400 many months ago. For reference, BH photo priced it at US$199 (before shipment and GST)

You can use the pricing from online BH photo as your reference before you purchase. Bring your camera and test it out. Different models may work differently in the camera. Also it depends how discerning you are with the sound quality.

There is going to be a firmware upgrade for the MkII where you are going to have full sync capabilities.

Thus eventually, you might not be needing a beechtek in the end.

Onboard mics have limited range so unless you are recording your own commentary, you might want to consider a wireless lav like Senny's G2/3.

As it stands, the cam can already do what you termed as a 'Full-sync' audio recording.
The only issue with the Canon 5D/7D audio workflow is not about the inputs/connections, not about line/mic signals, but its with the AGC. Until Canon disables that, the beachtek DXA-5D will still be useful.

Hopefully, manual gain control will be added in the next firmware upgrade, but I also doubt canon will add XLR connections to the body or add a phones out feature to monitor post-recording audio.

I just wanna ask... Lets say you put the zoom h4n on a hotshoe ballhead (Manfrotto 482) on the 5D2, are you still gonna hear all the AF/zoom-ring sound?

Now, what about connecting a rode videomic to the zoom h4n somewhere else, and the mic connected to the hotshoe?
