I ran the simulator Stellarium and found that there's supposed to be a meteor shower visible in mid June. There's the Saggitarids showers then, but this shower is not listed in some websites. Why is it so? :dunno:

I don't think the sagitarrids this year is gonna be impressive.
You will do better with Perseids which is expected to peak at Aug 12 this year.
Predicted hourly rate at 60 at peak.

Regards,
Sam

How come not many astro sites actually list Saggitarids showers?

.....or wait for the spectacular Leonids in mid-November. I guess it's probably becoz Saggitarids is a minor shower that's why there are fewer sites mentioning it. :)

Here's a meteor shower schedule;

Hope this helps ;)

Haha I've seen a few showers liao, so its nothing new to me. Seen in Sg skies tho, could only see like 3 on average an hour. :(

June I'm going overseas, hope can catch a clear showers, weather permitting. ZHR for Saggitarids is so low. :(

Hmmm....I think Leonids will not be spectacular too this year with only 20+ at max ZHR. Perseids is better peaking at 100!

Anyway, good luck!

I usually catch it with my club on sch campus. A bit bright there, can only see 3 an hour. I wonder where in Sg is dark enough?

Last showers in Dec was quite bad. Meteor count was only 20+ tho I stayed from 11pm all the way til sunrise. Leonids only 20 ZHR... Saggitarids meteors must appear only very sparsingly then! :o Will be at Tioman in June. Hope i can catch a good showers display.

Anyone attempting to shoot the upcoming showers next weekend?

which part of sg and when approx?

eeeeh... with all the light pollution here... It would be best to go away, like to bintan

I'm new here so i don't know yet how to open a new thread, that's why i'm borrowing this thread to ask. The Perseids meteor shower is predicted for 12Aug but I can't seem to find the time stated for best viewing. Anyone has any ideas on what time is the best for observing this shower?

Hi,

The Perseids meteor shower start from around 17 July to 24 August, but the nearer to the peak, the more meteor you can see. The predicted peak is at 12 August 2008 19:30 to 22:00 Singapore time, but the radiant point haven't raise yet during that period of time in Singapore. The radiant point will raise around 2am (Singapore time) in Singapore and by this time, the Moon should be setting soon... the meteor will be easier to spot without the bright Moon around.

Hope this help...

Have a nice day.

Best is somewhere without blocked views of the radiant point, constellation Perseus. Best somewhere with lesser glare from lights.

yo, besides stellarium, there is supposed to be a better software out there, cant remember the name but you could even load your own starwars system into it :D

Stellarium's search function can be useless when you're trying to find specific, less famous stars. Some objects are also not listed.
